Friend of a friend has recent bought an Mi16 205, which has been used for racing - looks good fun. Does anyone here have a track/race specific car i.e not used on the road? I fancy buying one for myself now, was recently looking at an ex BTCC Primera, but a 205 sounds fun and pretty cheap!

i love the way you start of talking about 205's, and then talk about an ex BTCC car nik

there is stuff about, but why limit youself to something you have to trailer everywhere

can get the same spec cars (205 wise anyway) that are road legal

theres a fair bunch of us have a few track cars for knockhill,
not yet ventured down south for track action though,

we have about 9 folks with 205's all very diffrent,

my closests 3 mates have 8v turbo ones which go well, all diffrent spec's aswell,

black one has t28,kms,uprated actuator, cossie green injectors,

red one is basicly standard, 2wd cossie intercooler , (uprated actuator still to go on)

white one done the bottom end in last time at knockhill so is getting a new heart for this sunday as we speak

the rest include a 205 16v turbo,
currently a 205 4wd 16v turbo being built and a t16 306 ,

our boat is still road legal.... but we choose to trailer it around now as its easier to be honest. Space for tools/over night bags etc

If budget isnt such a big issue i'd opt for an Impreza or Evo.... just strip it to bits and spend on susp/brakes. Engine can come later.

Budget minded - 205 Mi16 or S16 please

Not bothered about trailor etc, I have a van and could do the relevant test so that isn't an issue neither is storage - TBH I wouldn't really want or need it to be road legal!

The Primera was a LOT cheaper than you might think too. Budget wise, haven't a clue what I would want to spend, upto 10k I guess?

Seen that Colin, looks pretty nice! Although my mate paid £2k for his 205, and it's a pretty decent/solid car - had about 8k ploughed into it in the last couple of years (will post some pics soon!).

This would have been ideal - http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/classifieds/430989.htm

Or get a standard one & strip the fuck out of it!

I saw the BMW few weeks ago Paint the mirrors/wheels/skirts white and it wouldn't have looked bad! I'd love an E30 M3 but would feel bad pulling it to bits unless I could find one already sorted in my price range which isn't possible

for 10k youd get some pretty handy R32 GTR's.....

maybe 500bhp, but prob lacking in brake/susp for pure track work.

Tempting Adam, but I don't think I really want to go down the jap route again? Fancy something a bit 'different'...I do like that E30 though, although it's still a bit 'nice' to pull apart.

Track

Keep it NA
Keep it light
Brakes/suspension tuning.

Engine can stay standard, you want something that can take a lot of abuse. I'd look at an EK9 Type R or something, bigger brakes, suspension, stripped.

A slow, good handling, well setup car will beat a big BHP car on a track day.

That's why I liked this 205 TBH everything is simple, it's light, well set up and has 170bhp or so I would have thought. Brand new bumpers for it cost £25-30 too!

im currently working on a Clio 1.8 16v, (williams are even better).
Its running figures around 150bhp.
Ive stripped it out and chopped a couple of bits out of it, i got that for £500 even had a spare engine for it

what a load of crap

fit decent brakes/susp to a fast car and your miles ahead of the slow car

Whats the point of being handicapped for no reason?
