Ok my mum got rid of the house desktop and i loved that machine as it was really fast and did what you wanted it to do.
So i got this crappy cheap desktop upstairs now but its no good. The connection to the internet is just useless and its just so slow in general.
I need a computer that can hold alot of music, folders, pictures etc. So a mate of mine told me to get a laptop but... i want to be able to make cds etc..
Whats best for internet connection and basically doing what i just said?

depends, if u wont the laptop to be wireless or to be wired? as if its wireless it may be a little bit slower and hang up. but if its wired wont hang up and will be quicker
also u will be able to make cds with newer laptops.
with a laptop or a desk top u can get lardge amounts of storage, and also u can add new hardware to bunk up the space.

i only want it mainly for my music and making CD's. Price isnt really an option but im not going to absolutely splash out. The broadband in my house is downstairs so i would want my "machine" upstairs so isnt that going to slow down the connection anyways no matter what i get?

just double check when u by the laptop,
ring them up or ask, should say

Yes it will easily hold it
I have about 14k songs one a 120Gb drive and dont really notice it.
You can then get external drives etc for when your collection grows and you start using it for dvds etc

Buy a laptop. 1000 songs is nothing, most likely to be about 4GB. If that means nothing to you, the average hard-drive in computers/laptops now is roughly 100GB onwards.
Also, make sure the laptop is wirelss. Most are nowadays, but just check to be sure. Laptops can burn CDs too, just thought I'd point that out. And the reason your internet was going slow, was because of all the shite on the computer slowing the whole process down.
You could get a cheap HP laptop for about £180 which does everything you asked for, +more.

unless you want mobility then get a desktop - will work out cheaper in the long and upgrading is easier!

Ideally what do you want for it?

No offence to the lass, but I dont think she's the type to be into upgrading, and will most likely just buy a new computer

Yes, I personally find factory built computers tend to be shite, with built in 'break 1 hour after the warranty' features. Cannot beat building your own desktop for reliability, however, as Ren has said, laptop is most likely the best option. Where can you get a HP for £180??

My bad, you cant actually get a HP laptop for £180 unless you bulk buy.

Would look at Tesco's as there doing some decent deals right now. Had a decent fujitsu for around the £330 mark and a Dell for similar cash. Just bought a Dell from there (HERE), seems to be pretty good for typical web browsing, emails, music etc.

Beware of PC World prices. They're the Halfords of the computing world.
