As title really,
Doesn't have to include a monitor or anything else.
Looked at a few, but with the price they are it's tempting just to build it myself.
Budget is £2k, don't really want to go much over £2.5k for Desktop / monitors / keyboard / mouse / cables etc.

I ended up speccing a cheap enough PC for a friend which has a motherboard ready for MASSIVE power.if they plan to do that. Check out the draft spec on page 1. Was under £600 with delivery! Can't imagine what you'd be able to do with more then double that!!!

I would definitely build it myself, you would save some cash and it would be exactly to your specification.

Go for an Intel Quad Core, 8gb of ddr2 ram, good mobo and decent graphics card. Then personally I would go for a samsung 1tb hdd and look at a western digital velociraptor for a super quick hdd.

for that cash you can build yourself an awsome spec'd computer 
look over on overclockers, ask them on forum whats best ect they will help you out  . They also deal in computer parts too

if your looking for an off the shelf machine have you looked at apple macs ? the highest spec one is really good for the price, i spec'd one up to about 1700 and was fapping ace

Whats wrong with them ? Dual Boot to windows anyway if your afraid to move over you dont have to completely.
You could quite easily build a high spec pc for 2k, but a lot of websites will build them for you, and some deals you can pick up are actually cheaper than buying all the components.

Yu could quite easily build a much higher specced pc without a £1000 apple badge attached to it and dual boot to mac os though.

Alienware are shockingly expensive, you could build an equally priced machine for half the price they charge, tbh i wouldnt even spend that much, you could get a brilliant pc for 1k maybe a little bit more, dont buy anything from dell, apple blah blah, for the same price you will get a FAR far better custom pc.

Yeah, but it isn't 100% stable and a lot of mac specific software throws wobbles. Whereas a mac will happily run windows without a problem.
John, we've had this argument before, but you put mac's down fair to quickly without thinking that people actually use Mac's because A) software is mac only and B) Windows can't handle the software/hardware if it has been ported - ie: Protools/Digidesign (was rewritten from ground up for windows and it's still shit. Mac's are roughly 25-50% quicker in protools when against a similar spec'd pc system running Windows).
Whittie, what's the system going to be used for? If it's just gaming and general stuff then 2k is just burning cash as you could easily spec out a solid system for half that if not a third of that.
PS - as said, sod Alienware or any other bodged company right off. Spending that sort of money it's worth signing up to a load of forums and doing a load of research.

overclockers forums are alright but i think their store prices are a little high. But saying that, keep an eye out on the weekly deals can pick up some bargins. Although i agree that scan are slightly betty, especially if you sign up to Hexus forums which gets your free delivery  You will probably end up buying bits from all over the show, that's what i did with mine - even with the P&P costs (although scan, ebuyer etc were free), it still worked out cheaper

Whittie isn't wanting to use some fancy proprietary design/music editing software, he wants a fancy beast of a pc.
So on this occasion, along with 99% of other uses, the 1700 apple is equal to a 400 pc + a 1300 apple badge attached to it.

Intel are bringing out some new stuff called i7.
4 graphics cards in SLI, or 3 plus a physx card.
Space for 24gb ram, you could spec 2k up that way, otherwise it would just be a case of buying the most expensive of everything because components are cheap as chips.

They're way too overpriced in my opinion Mike, don't get me wrong they look pretty etc, but don't think it's worth it.

It'll be running lots of programmes at the same time, dreamweaver, photoshop, bridge, outlook, fireworks, probably smart ftp, and gay vista. I know most machines would be able to cope, and wouldn'd need 8gb memory etc, but I just want to future proof it a little more, I don't fancy changing the system in 12-18 months.

Yes Ian weather reports. Plus £2k is a ball park figure, it can be £900 or £1900, I was just saying it's the budget, and I didn't need screens etc as I can get them cheaper through a friend.

I saw that on custom PC website this morning, it'll probably be too expensive tbh
