I need something to put a widescreen tele on, im looking at about 40-42". I really like the look of this...
I like it with the backing board, that one is a bit pricey tho, anyone got anything similiar, any pics appreciated? Thanks.

You can get those backboard ones in Ikea, saw it the other day. I thought they look smart as well. Its a better solution than putting it on the wall as behind where you mount the TV you can either jigsaw a hole for cables or there is a precut one there (like the Ikea one)

Mines is on the wall, only sticks out the width of the bracket + width of tv, bracket is 3" max.

On the wall, looks far better, hide all the cables in the wall and they look amazing!

agree tele in wall looks mint
if its mounted on the wall and you hide cables and what not if you chnage tv in the future its alot of fooking about as you may have to redecorate that one wall or what have you ill stick to the smoked glass stand

Very true, especially if you go bigger, youve got to knock the wall about just to change your TV!
We have also found, even if you keep the same size TV the depths vary alot and with the new generation of super thin OLED screens, you wont even need to sink them into the wall!

I've changed my tv too a bigger one since i made holes in my wall and didn't have to change a thing.
It's not difficult to patch in a couple of holes.

Holes arnt difficult to patch but when the TV is sunk 80mm into the wall youve got alot of patching to do!

Yip if the walls built around it thats a different matter.
I'd rather have it on the wall than on a stand for the sake of a hole though.

ive sent ages fitting mine on the wall, thought about sinking it in the wall but i just dont think it looks right
tv is above fireplace so sat on the wall looks smart as fireplace sticks out too

Better sunk into the wall when above a fireplace, helps with the heat.
But if your fire is used quite a bit, you will notice 'heat haze' when watching the screen, especially with gas fires, nothing you can do about that though.

No, you need to leave alteast 50mm around all 4 edges or provide extra ventilation, most vents on plasmas are on the top (heat rising 'n all) so the heat should be able to flow out of the gap on the top.

done a lot of tests regarding this....
bought an electric fire that throws the heat down and out, starts to rise about 3 foot from the TV
ran it for an hour with a thermomitor next to TV and temp does not increase more then the temp of the room, the mantel sticks out further then the TV too to help difuse heat
also, electric fire so not much (or any I can see) haze

TV downstairs is right above a radiator, only a few inches, doesn't get anywhere near as warm as the heat coming from the tv itself at the top, no heat haze, radiator isn't as warm as a fire though obviously.
