Nah because people will still make daft comments and besides, some sign up for pointless reasons and sometimes deserve what they get.

Yes it might direct all the 'hello im new' posts to the correct place, though that said posting 'hello im new' is something I hardley ever do when joining a new site, I tend to just start posting & get on with it!!

It's a good idea, but the chances of new members actually posting in there first are slim, people still cant even place adverts in the right section.

It does work on some forums, but then on other sites they are heavily modded, ie cars offered need price, pics and location as with parts offered. Within an hour or two of posting if it doesnt fit in with the rules its deleted. Makes better read and looks more proper.
As said above GC needs sorting out

What exactly is the idea behind it?
They can just introduce themselves in there if they want and are free to post everywhere? Or they have to post a certain number of times in there before being allowed to post anywhere else?
Ive seen both of the above in use on certain forums over the years - personally think neither works that well and doubt it would stop any of the 'n00b abuse' that has been mentioned in the past. It would get rid of the 'Hi Im new' threads though which is the only good thing about it.

It's easier to keep track of all the newbie threads and stop the abuse if they're all in one place.

Ian, you go on PPRuNe don't you? I thought this site was harsh to people, but then I read there!
I think harsher penalties would be better. We don't need loads of people making the same joke over and over in the same thread. Notice how when a girl signs up there are hundreds of posts asking for pics. Maybe once in a thread would get an but then everyone jumping in and doing the same, come on.
