Sony A200 seems to get good reviews. mattk I think has trouble with the D40 as he bought lenses that won't autofocus (TBH, I wouldn't have realised either I don't think so not completely his fault )
But I'm selling my 400D with kit lens for £250

Just about any site that objectively reviews them.
And the fact that the lenses autofocus

the D40 isnt bad, If you can get one cheap go for it
buying lenses is tricky though cause the lens has to have its own internal focus motor
been a bit of talk about the Sony lately they seem to be good
Id be going Canon though

There are tons of lenses that AF on the D40. Just as long as they have an internal motor. AF-S from Nikon, HSM from Sigma and IF from Tamron.
Personally I would always stay with Nikon as the Canons are horrid to hold IMO.
The Canon is a great performer though with the right lens.

When I was originally looking for an slr the only bad point about the canon was the plasticy feel.

When you get right down to the bottom line, it's not the body thats massively important it's the quality of glass in front of it.
and of course the users good eye.

The nikon arent better than the minoltas? The 200 is a decent camera and great value for money, the only cheap comparable camera is the D40 which is pants imo, much less pixels, shorter range standard lens, no IS, and unless you fork out loads in the future not many lenses available will auto focus on the D40.

WTF is 'pixel detection'?
Perhaps you mean image quality, but theres nothing different between all the major manufacturers in that respect so you're talking rubbish.
Nothing wrong with Nikon, but they are no better nor worse than any other type TBH. Whatever feels best for each person IMO.

what do u mean what is pixle detection
its how good the camera is at picking the pixles out
rather than them being all crap looking
they come out looking sharp and full
