I have tried setting up the wireless connection this morning, this is what I did.....

Select a setting method = Easy
Connection method = Wireless
WLAN Settings = Scan (got my router and entered it)
WLAN security settings = WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK>Entered my WPA Key
IP Address Setting = Automatic
DHCP host name = do not set
DNS Settings = Automatic
MTU = Automatic
Proxy Server = do not use
UPnP = Enable
Then I save the settings and press X for enter, where I then test the connection but it always comes back that it's failed due to a time out.
Obviously the errors are with me so where am I going wrong?

Thanks.

Is the case correct when you are entering it in the ps3?

WPA keys are case sensitive, i've been caught out with this before

try putting the settings in manually, go to start>run on the pc and type CMD
when the black boxs opens type IPCONFIG and hit enter here you will get all the details of you need to enter manually, if your IP address is displayed here as 192.168.0.1 enter into the playstation 192.168.0.15 when it asked for IP, i had the same problem at first and it did it just manually and it worked

CorsaB4ever, I tried it manually, and got to the stage where I tap in my IP address,Subnet mask, default gateway, but it wants a primary DNS and a secondary DNS, but what are these and how do I obtain the codes?

will be in the IP config section,
but subnet mask will usually be something like 255.255.255.0
primary DNS just put the same as ip address
secondary dns same as primary but change last number to 19 i.e. 192.168.0.19

Why would you be making your DNS servers random numbers?

I'm not sure what the problem is here but thats a lot of rubbish.

To test it i'd turn the WPA off in the router and see if it connects or not.

It still looks like it could be some issue with the key.

well i set mine up by using my DNS the same a my IP address as this is what port forward suggested as there were no listed servers from my DNS and it works fine and my DNS server is currently the same as my ip addres now.
The best bet is to go to the router and hit the reset button then go on via the browser and enter the network settings again etc and then set up the network key to you specifics

can you access the router through you browser, i.e. 192.168.x.xx?
if so it should ask for a password and username, these are stamped on the bottom of the router 9 times out of 10

edit: even if you do get this to work your router is on a 802.11b wireless device, this is a speed rating of 11mbps you will struggle to hold a connection with this rating, so a router upgrade will more than likly be on the cards anyway

I can get the IP address by going into the router software on my laptop yeah, the ps3 had the same IP number tapped in when I did an auto IP selection.
It is asthough the ps3 is sending signal but the router is telling my ps3 to do one.

rite when you go to enter the settings into the playstation, what settings is it asking you?
Network name? i guess you know this
WEP/WPA key - I guess you know this
IP - you know this
Subnet mask
Primary DNS
Secondary DNS

to find the last three try
start>run>cmd>in the balck box type ipconfig/all
this should get you your servers and subnet mask

Yeah SSID I think it's called, I know that, I know my WPA key, IP addy I know that, I know my Subnet mask and default gateway, it wants my Primary DNS and secondary DNS but when do the 'start>run>cmd>ipconfig/all it gives me....

IP address
Subnet Mask
Default Gateway
DHCP server
DNS servers

So the info is there, I'm thinking it's a communication thing between the router and console or one of them is faulty, I doubt the router is because I run 4 computers off it and have done for the last 2 years non stop.

Update, I'm set up and updating the software via the net, I found that the problem was (your gunna love this) about 2 years ago I had a computer techie come and secure all my network in my place (I run my company from computers at home aswell) he set me a wpa key and I wrote it down. When I entered the new wpa key which I thought was right, it was actually wrong, because about 2month ago a boy climbed an electrical supply in my village, got electricuted and died, which meant all the power in my village went off. So it reset the wpa key to it's factory password, thanks CorsaB4ever for your time and help. It's muchly appreciated.
