From what i can work out is that, over here not many people will spend 1000's on developing an engine which comes out of a 1000pound car. The reason why the Ford market is alot bigger over here.
Where in SA Opels are Massive, abit like UK's Ford/Jap market.....

only a safety factor of 2

iirc cars as rough rule have a safety factor of 1.5-2
aircraft have 2.5+ (dependening on component)
