If it wasnt Gerrard that did it, people would be calling him a cheat, wanker and loads of other stuff, but because its Gerrard he will get away with it.

Just lol @ people jumping on the Gerrard and Liverpool bandwagon whenever theres a chance too. Fact is it wasn't a penalty, but there was contact so if he chooses to go down he can do, it's not a dive. Any half decent referee/linesman would know it wasn't a penalty, but any half decent referee/linesman would have given a penalty for a blatent handball about 20mins earlier. Just because a penalty goes in their favour when it shouldn't have done doesn't warrent the "scummy, cheating scousers" bandwagon to make an appearance.

So becuase you didn't get a penalty earlier in the game, your allowed to fall to the ground like a girl in order to win a penalty that shouldn't have been (effectivly cheating)
Ok then

People are blaming the wrong people, a referee, 2 linesmen and a fourth official are there to oversee the game, if penalty decisions are wrong then it's their fault. I also would say the same with Drogba or C.Ronaldo.

Aye but if players wern't throwing themselfs up & down like fishes out of water the officials wouldn't be put in a position to get it wrong in the first place.

I completely agree with J da Silva. Its the referees job to judge whether its a penalty or not, if theres contact then its not cheating or trying to con the referee, its down to the referee whether the contact, which was obviously there, is enough to warrant a penalty. Ive got more of an issue with players rolling around on the floor holding their faces when they got nudged in the arm etc. To me thats where cheating comes into it as its a deliberate attempt to con.

and no, thats not what im saying at all as they are two separate instances. What I am saying is that I dont remember seeing any "Unlucky Liverpool denied obvious penalty" thread. Its always jump on the Gerrard and Liverpool cheats bandwagon. Like it or not what Gerrard did wasn't cheating, the referee is there to interprete the rules and having gone down after contact he and his lineman decided it was a penalty so thats completely within the rules. Gerrard isn't there to decide himself whether or not its a penalty.
To summerise
Going down with NO contact and then claiming a foul / penalty = cheating
Going down after contact, no matter how much, is placing the decision in the referees hands

So what about falling to the groud like a girl when barley nugged in order to win a penalty? Surley by doing that there is a "deliberate attempt to con"
If someone was "nuged" as you put it, then there is contact "no matter how much" now a nudge is not a lot, but its still contact.......

I dont see how anyone can defend Gerrard about that pen
It was clearly a dive and he should have been booked. Yes the ref shouldnt have given the pen but if Gerrard wasnt a cheat the ref wouldnt have got it wrong

I think the fact that he won the ball, the defender didnt touch the ball, and contact was made with Gerrard = not a dive.
It was a stupidly soft pen which the ref maybe shouldnt of given, but it wasnt a dive.

Summed up perfectly in two lines there.
If this had have happened in the centre circle and a foul had been given there wouldn't be pages about this on CS thats for sure. To me thats pretty obvious that its more of an issue about the ref giving a penalty.
Do you not think its approaching pretty dodgy territory when a ref now has to start booking people and judging whether someone is "cheating" depending on how much contact each player should be able to take. Theres no doubt that it was a soft penalty but the fact is THERE WAS CONTACT. Would the same incident involving Sol Campbell and Luis Garcia (for example) also be "cheating"? Your approaching pretty dodgy territory if your now classifying cheating personally to each player and how much of a "nudge" they should be able to take without going down
Boundaries are clear for this exact reason, its almost impossible to make the ref decide whats a dive and whats not in this way.
No contact is a clear dive and should be booked and contact of any type is placing the decision in the refs hands. Its up to the player whether he wants to risk loosing the chance by going down after the contact. If your a defender, like Cosmo said, he didn't get the ball and he did make contact with Gerrard so its a pretty stupid decision by him to make that risk.

There was only contact because Gerrard jumped into the defender.
