Me and my dad were wondering why different cars have the fuel flap or cap on differing sides of the car.

Most Euro cars have it on the right hand (drivers side in this country), where as japs are the opposite?

Any ideas???

Probably down to space and where the tank is located on the car.

also, apparently, u can tell on which side the fuel car is by looking at ur gauge on instrument cluster...

if the hose on litle pump thing is drawn on left then cap is on the right, and if its on the right cap is on the left..

not sure all cars have them pump thingies drawn though..

Its always on the opposite side to the original drivers door side.. Corsa's etc are european cars and normally left hand drive so the filler is on the right hand side Jap cars are right hand drive and the petrol filler tends to be on the left.

Some petrol gauges actually have an arrow on them, just a little triangle but most people tend not to realise due to the fact they'll only see it in odd cars every now and then so don't think much of it. Suzuki do it, I clocked it when I worked for them cos different models had the filler on different sides so the arrows would point different ways

good job they reach either side then isnt it!
on that point it always makes me laugh to see people queing for one side of the petrol pumps with all the opposite ones free, then drive up to the empty ones and stretch the nozzle over my car

at one petrol station near me, they have put signs saying that hoses are long enough to stretch over the car, so it doesnt matter on which side is ur fuel cap..

not everyone knows that and its advantage for me

so how do you open to the fuel cap on the Rex ash?

i was spared this embarrassment by asking if i could have the key to open the boot with, but theres a release catch on the floor of the driver side, the petrol one is inlayed in it too

It's the same lever as the boot release, only you push down and left instead of pulling up.

I didn't know you had to push down, so was just shoving it left and nothing happened.

Spare wheel location usually.

But there's no accounting for dual exhausts...

ive found this still doesnt help people work it out, the big tesco near me even has a nice picture showing the hose reaching all the way round a car and people still dont do it
