The car needs to be Taxed and MOT'ed and you need to hold the V5C (or the new owners section).
However when you buy the plate it will be on retention and in the name of a nominee (yourself).. You then have 12 months to allocate it to a vehicle, after those 12 months you can pay £25 for an extension of a further 12 months.

Not really where are you getting it from? dvla? if so then it will be on retention so you have a year to put it on a car or pay another retention fee

No you don't, you can get it whenever you want, just can't assign to the car until it's legal.
too slow

tbh its more hassel then what its worth..
putting it on the car is a doddle, but im in process of removing it to sell the car..
couldnt find the logbook so had to send off for a new one (£25 and 7 days)
sent that off with the documents to put it on retention (£105 + £10 for postal order and 10days)
and this morning the documents have come through with the retention certificate, but saying i need to send my old tax disc off to obtain the logbook and will take upto 4 weeks..
just a complete joke to be honest.

That plates not worth that unless they numbers means something really special to you, irish plates go for upwards of £80.
They are a hassle but mine looks brilliant on all the cars i've spent money transfering it onto, wouldn't change it.

no such combination
FAZ 137 will be closest
FAZ 13T wont even exist as Z wasnt used in standard reg combinations on a T

YES
You need a car tax'd mot'd and insured to get a plate on/off a car. Trust me on this, it took me MONTHS to get my plate off the car (car was in bits, needed tax, mot and insurance to get plate off).
You can however put the reg on transfer, then put it on the car when it has all the 3 requirements.

My dad bought a private plate for his nurburgring and he payed the cost of the plate etc then a few months or so later he payed £80 to have it transfered on to the car so im pretty sure you could get the plate now and have it transfered on to the car once its done

If you buy it from the DVLA it won't cost anything to get transferred to the car when it's ready.
It'll cost you money after a year to retain it if it's not on a car though.

phone them up about it and tell them the car isnt mot'd as it isnt finished yet you could still buy it and instead of being £80 transfer fee it will be £105 as it will go on retention for a year so that means you have got a year to put it on any car
best just phoning them up they will explain it more to you
