Hi has anybody owned or known people who have had either a standard redtop or 1.6 on throttle bodies? (both in corsa b) wouldn't mind either of these engine since both about 150bhp? is the redtop alot worse for the twisties as people claim? would some expensive coilvers solve this? im guessing the redtop would have the benefit of more torque? i guess there are advantages and disadvantages to both?

redtop is more power per £££
But I would have the tb's and they sound
Drives supercharged Tec with torque

This has come up so many times and everytime the result is whichever you prefer.
You need to look at pros and cons for each and see which suits your needs more.
Just to make it more arkward too there's the possibility of the small block 1.8s (X18XE1/Z18XE) Which have the lightweight advantage, plus a power advantage over the 1.6 but still down on the XE

well ok but say you wanted throttle bodies on the redtop engine would you be talking alot more money than the 1.6? i have a 1.4 16v so would need new engine either way!

Getting a 1.6 then getting it to 150bhp will cost more than an XE and will still be down on torque.
Tuned 1.6 needs to be revved for the power too

x16xe on tb's any day for me, own both, the redtop isnt half as much fun as my x16, which is why its took a back seat and is sat in the garage

oh right ok but what if you put tb's on the redtop engine? roughly how much bhp?

it depends, probably around 170-180bhp with just the bodies.

I've driven both, there's not a lot in it on the road to be quite honest.

Yes exactly, and the small block will rev faster and higher making the most of the throttle bodies.

It all comes down to what you prefer though, I like revvy engines, some people like torquey engines, I wouldn't say the 20XE was particularly torquey though really.

a c20xe weighs only about 30kgs more than the 1.6 so it's not all that bad, just put the battery in the boot to lighten the front a bit or get FG bonnet and wings as well.

i think a xe is a revvy engine compared to alot of cars ive driven, could deffo put it in the aggressive power delivery category......
it depends what you want, the handling issue is still not enough for me to want 1600, as i dont believe the handling difference is enough to matter.
small block xe's are gettin on now with newest one being 9 years old now so........ that is not really plus anymore.
if you said c20let or 1.6 on tb's id say 1600 on tb's for the instant power, but up to you really im buyest so i say 2.0 on tb's THOUGH

Bolting a set of throttle bodies onto a C20XE with no other mods would see about 175-180bhp, doing the same with an X16XE would see about 150-155.
You can get C20LET power from a C20XE quite easily.
As for the small blocks being 9 years old, that's the X prefix ones, you can use the Z prefix ones too, so you can get ones which are a year old if you want.
