My sister is 32 and shes been in there since 17, she loves it, has been around the world, ok shes been to some not so nice places (Basra etc...) but then shes been to the likes of Bahrain to live for a year!

The money is very good once you work your way up shes on something like 35K for doing a telecommunications job.

Think shes an officer or something.

Reg Gunner pays about £16.5k iirc but pay gets higher as you progress/get promoted to SAC etc.

To me personally im not joining for the money but for the life, you are looked after very well anyways.

Im talking about financially with your cost of accomodation/meals etc in the sense that you dont have to worry about much if anything.

Life is good in the regiment, iv got a couple of friends who are Gunners.

I applied in July/August and am currently waiting to do my pre RTC on the 15 and 16th of this month.

Applied for Weapons Technician and passed the grades needed which I was well chuffed about

Got my draft date through as the 4th February.

Reasons I went for the forces is there is no way on earth of getting a decent job round where I live at the moment.

Well i've had family and mates go to Army/Raf etc, they go in all happy, soon as they see war..something changes in them.

I hate the government and the pointless wars as it is, i love the way we pick on the undereducated or the poor to join etc, but if you think it's for you i hear it's "rewarding"

Ive got my selection weekend for the T.A end of this month im well looking forward to it.

If I like the T.A etc I may think about joing the forces full time as seems like a good life style and like people have said not many problems to think or worry about, just getting shot and missing family

Ive been in 6 years now, the first 3 years i enjoyed and now im based at Odiham where your spending 5-7 months away from home every year things change. Ive been to war, seen what really happens and like Kevxx says something changes in you. When you want a stable relationship, settle down with a long term partner and want to have kids then you soon realise theres a risk of spending 5-7 months away from them then the military isnt for you. People will have different takes on things. Ive just been unlucky with postings i guess, love my job but i disagree with more than i agree with so for that reason and the reason i want a normal family life sometime soon my last working day will be the 13th March, still been paid till the 26th June. I cant wait!

My cousin applied to leave, got told he could ..then war came up nah joy basically
In for another 3 years basicaaly, so if he wanted to leave before this he has to pay and no doubt get treated like shit!

so he's staying till they let him leave really!

that may of come off wrong, i didn't mean people here as undereducated or anything derogatory like that. I Mean the way the Forces tell you it's good money, it's a good way to see the world, nearly any dumbass can join to a certain level, but they miss out the fact that your now a trained killing machine, your part of something pretty sick, have a look how much money the forces spend, how many innocent we kill or how much trouble we cause for the fact of money.

After seeing a few of my friends and family completly change, i am very againest it.

If i had any control i'd give the money from forces to education to show everyone just what we're up to.

A supplier and driver are two complete different jobs! Dont listen to the bull shit they feed you at the AFCO! Theyll have a target to meet for certain trades and will feed you bullshit to so they meet that target

Yeah there would be some driving involved, youd get your fork lift licences and heavy loads LDV, 5 tonne etc. Worked with alot of good movers across the world. Id look into that over driver and supplier anyday!
