Sand eel has one. Anyone else?

What are they like realisticly on fuel?
Problems?
Cambelt changes?
Handle like a boat?
Had a play with something that it kept up with?

I do on average about 220 miles a week on average with alot about 50% town and the other on duel carridge ways....

looking at them, as i think insurance is reasonable considering my age!

i fancy one aswell tbh when the corsa is finished.

would be a minimum 323 though.

big cars though and not that quick, used to toy with my mate in his old one when i had my corsa gsi. it did have cams, superchip, mantzel powerbox, full stainless exhaust with decat.

mates was soo comfy though

sand-eel is defo the man to speak to re e36s.

but having asked a few questions to him about them;

try and go for one 1995 onwards (has alusil block which was a bmw recall on the earlier nikosil blocks, earlier ones might have been replaced, but some may have slipped thru the net)

although e36 is a heavy car, it handles very well and is pretty nippy.

the 328's see good gains by using 325 inlet, throttle body and remap (230 bhp)

not sure about 323's tunability tho (although it is restricted by the inlet design)

Ive had a 320i and now i have a 318is, both good on fuel, 318 around the same as my old corsa 1.6 sport, 320 was abit more, nothing major though.

Just look for your normal points like rust etc, Have a look what block is on it, if its a Nikasil block id be slightly put off.

Cambelt changes are a no no, bmws are chains so dont need changing

As for handle like a boat, couldnt be far from the trough, If your young and only driven saxos, corsas this will feel like a different league! smooth, comfortable, fun in the wet, effortless

Bmws arent a racing car so if your wanting a car to keep up with others dont get one! They are a car to be enjoyed and and provide alot of fun on wet days and drift days.

I am young yes, but drive alot of grown up cars on a regualr basis for work(2007 tdi passats, older shape ones, mk5 golf etc) I would have a new passat tomorrow but they want more to insure one that a 323!. Driven a e30 316 and a e46 318 but thought bit pants on power! the e46 did feel pretty direct though.

Im not a racey racey 24/7 person, i just asked the question too see if i could campare it to anyting else ive driven!

Cheers anyways

I put your car through my insurance company and they said no cannont insure you on it.

But were happy for me to have a newer 323 with same capacity engine

Otherwise i would of liked something like that, even though its auto. I dont think it would bother me on a big engine. Love it in my mates navara, big engine, leather sofas.....a manaul wouldnt be right

323 and 325 are both the same engine (2.5 Straight six) id be inclined to go for something like the 328 Sport, same insurance, tax, running cost, pretty much. Ver reliable and will do 250K if looked after.

On the other hand i have an M3 for sale

Edit: same engine but the 323 produces less power, mainly becuse of the inlet

Thats pushing it too far

I rang norwhich union up last night for a renewal on my 1.7 16v puma, and they wouldnt quote me on it because its group 13 and im not 21 (got the car at 18 yr old with elephant)

Then went back to elephant for some quotes on other things.....hence this thread... Im going to check out out a 328 in that case.....

e46 323 are cheaper than i imagined too....

YO
The 323i has an aluminium block and the 325i has a cast iron one, so the 323i handles slightly better.
If you put the 328i cat/muffler section on a 323i (straight bolt on) and the 325i inlet on (needs some machining to sit properly) + better airfilter eg BMC CDA and a performance cat-back, you will have more power than a 328i + remap = over 200bhp easy.
Then again you could fit the 325i inlet on a 328i, performance exhaust, airfilter, remap 230bhp odd can be acheived, but for me a 328i was an extra £300 to insure.
I had a play (on a private test track) with an old clio 1.8 16v "valver" and it was neck and neck.

there is no sign that says nikosil, there should be a metal tag beside the gear box on the passenger side if its been changed to alusil.
P.S don't get an auto, it takes all the fun away and autos are slower.
