For roughly 3 years I've not had a modified car, or a 'toy', I just sort of fell out with it a bit and never really bothered with it, frequent trips to and from my homeland, starting a family and taking loads on in and out of work left me no time to do anything, I'm less busy these days and I'm getting urges to do something similar to the old corsa I had, with a more mature outlook on things, I'd build something ferocius again.

I don't know what to do, I may start and get fed up halfway through but then atleast I'd have given it a second go, whereas if I just tame the beast I'd be like "I should have gone ahead with it".

Any other old members get this twinge these days?

Do a family sized saloon, or estate. Loads to choose from and you can modify from a point of view that it won't be too OTT and remain a practical car. Plus if you do happen to tire of it you won't be left with a highly kitted up car that you won't be able to still use it on a day to day basis/sell on.

Mav's old Vectra is a good example. Or an A4 saloon/Avant.

Just buy a Corsa GSi and see how you like it. You don't need to go crazy.

I was 26 when I bought mine. I did occasionally regret it when I considered how much money I had thrown at it and how sad I looked driving a 90s throwback boy racer hatch, then I just got used to using it and laughing. You need to have no pride and it's actually quite fun.

Trouble with kit cars where I live when I'm in the UK is it may take me 3/4 months to build it for 7/8k, but there is a kitcar garage 2miles away from me which build them for 5k in a fortnight..... so I'd probably end up taking the easy route and paying some cheb to get my enjoyment.

If you're thinking about a Caterham or similar, drive one first. They're very, very small.

I know Ian, I'm a corsa veteran, I threw 7grand at my old c20let and Wallace Performance saw me that much they thought I was family.

I have no pride at all, it was just banter, I think I've moved on and something from the past keeps popping it's head up every now and then when I have spare time.

I've grown up in taste with road cars, drive a mundane Vectra now. But I got the same urge as you, so went and bought a cheap Corsa SRi at the weekend. It's exactly the same as the one I had when I first passed my test. I feel embarassed getting in it, but once you're in it and having fun you don't care!

Buy an RX7. Quickest way to rid yourself of any urges to modify a car ever again when the maintenance costs equal or exceed the modding ones.
