I was watching a program about it the other day, and it got me thinking. I already donate blood on a regular basis, but theres nothing stopping me donating bone marrow too. Next time I go to give blood, i'm certainly going to enquire about it and more than likely register.

Just curious if any of you guys are on it? Have you ever been called upon to donate? How do they do it?

I think it might be. I heard somewhere, they take it from your spine or something That sounds a bit extreme though when they could get it from an arm or leg easier and much safer i'm sure.

I would like to be able to give blood but I've a completely irrational and melodramatic aversion to needles. Faint at the sight of them and usually throw up when I come round. I'm absolutely useless medically. I applaud anyone who donates.

No idea, my own brother wasn't a match for bone marrow, same with my dad.

Genetics are well fucked up tbh.

I'm the one that'll be having a transplant when a match is found. They went to see if they're compatible.

i would donate bone marrow but i always thought you only did it when someone related to you needed it. didn't realise they kept a stock of it like they do with blood. think i'll have a read of that link now as i'm obviously ignorant about it all.

aye, its a good cause. i seem to be going on about this abit recently but my dad was severely ill afew years ago with aplastic anaemia which basically meant that his bone marrow wasn't making any of the ingredients for his blood. the first port of call was to find a donor but none of us in the family were a match for him and there were no donors. thankfully the alternative worked for him
