None, all US based are being bailed out by the Govt, and no doubt any UK ones would get similar backing.

Peugeot imo. Bit too suspect they haven't announced any job cuts or anything - they can't be surviving without any issues atm!

Don't they have orders to the military? I'm sure the MOD can't go without their Landys.

No big loss? What about the thousands it would put out of work?

If they close, it's unlikely that they'll ever re-open. It is a big loss

loads of places are going bust anyway. unemployment is already at about 2 million and expected to rise above 3 million before the year is out.
British car manufacturers are small and low volume anyway, although radical have reported an increase in sales and profits upto yet.
As for jaguar LR they are chinese backed so will never run out of money, although LR dealership sales are down by almost 70% so expect them to close a few outlets and slow production.
The british car industry is pretty much none existant anymore, any of the big makes are all foreign backed so are not really british anymore
BTW saab are filing for bankruptcy protection as we speak...

As said, Saab were in trouble according to the news last night.
Un-surprising really as they are too much of a niche. Expesive average cars.

How are people describing a UK Manufacturer - someone who is a UK based company, or any car maker who has a factory over here.
The small brands wont get bailed out, but not really a huge number of them left, and most have small workforces with high sales prices (i.e. to those not really effected by the credit crunch) so should be OK.
The large companies (Nissan and the like) will be bailed out before they close up their UK operations, as if not they will not return, and thats a huge number of lost jobs and a huge amount of income via taxes the Govt will miss out on.

So there already known to be in trouble. I thought going by the press release this was a company that had not been in trouble up to now & not recieved any govt bail out abroad!?
Id have said RR but there owned by tata or whatever now & im not sure what their finnces are like, although they made shit boxes for the indian market only before plunging into the RR buyout which will have large expenditures so could be them.
Could easilly be one of the japs, Toyota or something.............although why dont they get backing from their own government!
Ah who knows..............why dont unite just come out & say who it is!!

How much of a discount do you think you could get on brand new cars if you walked in with the cash at dealerships at the moment?

If its a stock car then you'll get a fair amount. Most are willing to make next to nothing just to free up some cash and get the care off the forecourt.

Doubt you'd get that much off.

Nah they wont sell at a loss hense the shorter working weeks being introduced/shutting down of plants etc
You'll probably find them offering other incentives to buy new, finance offers, free servicing bundles etc.
My local BMW's doing 0% finance over 4 years on used cars................they've got an M3 in atm
