Quite tempted to trade in my ibiza FR 130 TDi for a clio 182

Got bored of the Ibiza, plus I dont really need a diesel tbh. Lovely car to drive but miss the fun factor tbh, and its still under warranty and I cant play with it.

I know a few members on here have / have had 182's, any major / common problems to look out for? Whats the faults youve found with them?

Only thing I can think of is the size, my mums got a clio and I need the seat almost right back to get comfortable, leaving no room in the back at all.

How reliable are they after getting a bit of abuse, average mpg?

Why not just remap it?. Get a decent spring/coilover setup. Some Neuspeed arbs, struct braces and bring the fun factor back

good cars, few niggley problems on the 182 but all are easy fixes, the exhaust falling off isnt a problem on the 182 which plagued the 172.

the seat position is ok as its height adjustable in the 182, and you can remove two spacers from the bottom of the seat frame if its still to high.

fun car imo

Even remapped it will still be a fairly big car and a low revving diesel comapred to a clio. Also I mentioned its still under manufacturers warranty as its 2007

Clios are ok but not the lightest, conseqently it blunts acceleration somewhat. ive driven 172/182 and neither of them screamed fun factor at me.

Id be tempted with an astra gsi turbo mk4 making a bit of a saving with loads more potential.

Easy fixes dont bother me, like tinkering with cars - keeps me busy and gives me something to do. Dont need a car everyday so can easily have it out of action for a few days or whatevers needed

My mate had an astra gsi for a few months, he then traded it in to the garage he bought it for and got a cliop 182 and he said its much better

Only thing which may take a while getting used to is the lack of torque?

Get a trial of Revo and see if you change your mind. Manufactures warranty won't make a difference. I had mine mapped, dropped on coilovers, arbs etc.. it's only the parts replaced that won't be covered. Some Seat dealers even offer Revo as a service.

Ibiza just feels a bigger car

Might go look up the weight to see if theres a difference

Try asking rob b he went from ibiza to clio 182


I test drove a couple and really liked them. Just wasnt so keen on the seating position as I am quite tall. Felt like I was kind of on top of it rather then in it.


But drive one and see what you think

Theres one at a local garage, going to head down today and get a test drive and see what my ibiza worth out of curiousity.
Just cant make up my mind, 1 min im happy with the ibiza next I wish id something like a 182 that revs past 4k

Hmm, extra 558 to insure the clio over the ibiza. Monthly installment will go up 140 a month.... Dont want to go for a test drive incase I severely want it

i have the same Ibiza as you and Also want the likes of a 182- i understand the back and forth mentality in terms of liking the ibiza or not. Really annoying!

When i was choosing cars it was between 182 cup or Fabia VRS... i just wasnt taken by the 182 at all, no doubt it would out handle my fabia with ease. For what i wanted the fabia ticked all the boxes, i still think its a hoot to drive after a year and half of owning it. I m glad i didnt get the 182 cup but every time i see one i do think to myself... hmmmm!

A remapped 130 diesel isn't much slower from a standing start than a 182 and i'd say there's nothing in it on the move.

Also, even non remapped it'll feel faster than the clio does even if its not really.

If you looked about you could get a remap, rarb and TT brakes for 558.

If I went to anything else which didnt have a turbo I reckon id really miss the torque

Exactly what I did and on the way home the clio made sense had all the raw feel and fun I missed from having an XE but without the drawbacks of unreliability.

My 182 has served me well and I have just done 40k in it in the last 14 months

Nothings broken on it touch wood although the exhaust has seen better days

165, since when? 182 = PS = 179 BHP, although granted most of them do make mid to low 170's on the rollers. Mine, which is standard made 177bhp.

I brought my 182 Cup last year in August, i went for the Racing blue with Recaros. Not had any problems at all, mileage is only just creaping up to 17k. Best car ive owned out of Corsa GSi, Brabus roadster, Mini cooper S works, Lupo GTi. Was planning to get rid this summer when i bought it last year but doubt i will now.
