I share my workshop with a close friend of mine and we were talking about offering a 1.8 Conversion service..
I've never really had the time to openly offer a conversion service myself as my spare time is quite limited and precious to me.. but he's happy to help out with the lift and shift monkey work and I can then concentrate on the electronics side of it.
We would offer a rapid turn-around and prices depend on what model you start with, generally the more basic the model the cheaper the conversion (as less work is involved).
We'd like to focus on the small block 1.8's because its a safe and tidy conversion.. I'm not a big fan of the 'bodging' that has to be done to fit big block engines and the chassis really isnt designed for its additional weight or physical size.
All work would be carried out in a secure, fully fitted workshop that was in commercial use until we took it on.
Just curious to see what sort of interest there is really?

We would be looking to offer the conversion service only, although I'm sure if we can obtain an engine a Price could be worked out..
Be looking at up to £500 for the conversion... a 16v with A/C is the one that requires the most work so it will be the top whack.
A 8v with no PAS/AC would be in the region of £400.
A full list of all parts required would be supplied.

No its just labour.. If it included everthing Id' be getting about £150 to do 12+ hours of work..
You can have your old engine back of course (minus some hoses that are required), the original loom will be used to build the new loom and You're gearbox will stay in the car.

I'm not understanding, does he mean that donar cars WITH AC are more difficult to do because you have to remove more original stuff/wiring to get the 1.8 in or you are able to use the AC on the 1.8 engine with a 1.4/1.6 donor car.

Not sure about keeping A/C.. a) I couldnt guarentee that it will remain gas tight (not being an A/C engineer) and b) its a right pain in the arse to remove without fucking it up
