...and it was a complete failure I knew I was unfit, but I didn't think I was this bad.
I'm quite self concious, and because it was my first time jogging i knew I was going to be starting and stopping (and gasping for breath) a lot so instead of jogging around my town and making a fool of myself, I decided to drive out into the country-side a little bit (5 mins away) and run where no one would see me; along the Forestry Commission roads.
Okay, so I had on my shorts, dusted off the only semi-suitable trainers I had (size 16 Jordans which i've not worn for years) did a few stretches (making sure it looked like I knew what I was doing just incase anyone could see me), grabbed my bottle of water from my car, and i was off...
I was mostly watching where I placed my feet as there were a few stray branches I could have tripped over, and I know a few people walk their dogs along this path, so the last thing I wanted to do was slip on some dog-shite and land on my arse.
The first 100 yards were eating my dust I was thinking, "Hey, this isn't so bad...", and then I looked up. A hill! Bugger, i didn't think about hills.
Anyway, I got half way up, and I started feeling really out of breath, but instead of stopping, I looked ahead, set a landmark for myself and decided I wasn't going to stop running till I had reached that point. Conveniently, it was only another 50 yards ahead of me, but I still made it
I stopped for a minute or so, caught my breath and started jogging again. This attempt lasted for about another 150 yards before I started gasping for air and feeling like I was breathing fire. I repeated this another 4 or 5 times before my head started pounding and my saliva turned to glue. Thank god I remembered to bring some water with me otheriwise i'd probably be dead
Eventually, I gave in and decided to head back to the car.
To guage how far I had actually jogged, I timed myself walking back at a brisk pace.
It only took my 10mins. Pitiful.
At least i've managed to achieve one thing from this mini-adventure (which hopefully won't be my last). I've now realised how unfit I am, and how much damage smoking has done to me over the past 6 years, so I shall smoke no more!
Typical though as I just spent a fiver on a pack of twenty last night

its addictive im like a machine when i start running sometimes i end up in places thinking how the fuck did i get here

At least you have bitten the bullet and made an effort, Just keep at it and you'll get fitter, and you'll save money by ditching the fags too

When i used to go jogging etc to train for the t.a had to do a 1.5 mile run in under 10 min and took me ages to get better at running but i found that after u feel like ur gonna die it gets ok u can just keep going at a steady pace for quite a while.
Hate running though thats why im not doing the t.a anymore lmao couldnt back doing 3-4 mile runs at 6am.

I was in the same boat as you BluKoo just before xmas.
I applied for the RAF as a regiment Gunner so decided to go for my first run, at first i thought the same as you, not that bad. Then very quickly my body decided it had had enough and i was basically left lying in the middle of a farm track on my back thinking i was dying .
The worst part was that i had only ran/jogged about 200m!
I thought to myself, what have i done applying to be a Gunner, as the 'basic' fitness test is 3miles in under 24mins, but when doing the actual test the you have to keep up with pti's who run it in 22mins, which you should be able to do with ease.
Since then i carried on going out running a few times a week and you quickly start to improve on distance/speed etc.
Im back at square one now though as i contracted a bad injury to a muscle in my groin stopping me from running for the last 8 weeks
So keep at it and you will see improvements pretty fast fella

I'm gonna try and go jogging every 2nd day (maybe). I guess it will depend mainly on the weather.
Just dug out my old exercise bike, so i'm gonna continue with the cardio on that today.

When i first started running i just went after my legs had stopped aching and hurting.
I prefer running in the rain, nice and refreshing and keeps you cool, obviously not when its absolutely pissing it down though.

Your jogging attempt sounds exactly how mine would if I was to go - I'm unbelievably unfit these days
And tbf if you wore smaller shoes, I'm sure you'd get further - less weight, more aerodynamic etc etc
