I thought it was an April fool? Should I turn on SSN and pretend I didn't or just admit I've been tricked for the thread banter?

Either or mate it's your choice Really not sure what to make of the appointment, suppose he's the only bloke that could lift the club at the moment

I think the fans and players will love it but I can't see him keeping them up.

It's a win win situation for Shearer if he keeps them up he'll be a hero forever more and if they go down nobody will blame him and love him even more when he get's them promoted again

Amazing move by Mike Ashley to gain some love back from the fans.
Stupid move by Shearer as he is going to be a fucking awful manager.

Shearer should of been a coach for NU, not a manager. One of the best English strikers to grace the gane, but not a manager.

Spot on.
He should no way be the manager right now.

I'm going to go against the grain and say he'll keep them up.
He'll have the honeymoon period all managers have and he'll get the fans backing the side again. Home to Chelsea first game and away to Villa last isn't much use to him right enough.

I reckon he will restore some belief in the players. Newcastle have a good team on paper, I reckon Shearer will keep them up. Also, might be worht a cheeky £5 on them against Chelsea

The morale of the team will be high now, and the stadium will be packed, I have changed my mind from last night, but don't expect them to get much from any clash with the top teams.

They've won 6 games all season according to SSN last night, if he were to beat Stoke and Middlesborough and pick up a couple of draws they should be fine and I think he'll be capable of doing that.

I think it might work, look at what usually happens when a new manager comes in, they often win the first game if none , add to that the atmosphere it will create at St James, better than having a random anyway.

I'm sorry but keeping Newcastle in the PL isn't an achievement. It should be a given! But as it's deemed an achievement he'll be a hero. I could keep them in the PL tbh.

I think its funny how all the disillusioned fans are going to turn against him at the end of the season.
Way to go to ruin your hero status

He can't lose really, if they go down people will trust him to bring them straight back up, if he keeps them up then he'll be regarded as more of a hero, as said above.
It's a good thing for him to do at the present time, probably good money for him as well seeing as he's stated many times he didn't want the job
