Right guys, I wonder if any of you can help me.
I've paid off my wedding dress in full, the dress was ordered and it then it turned up.
Went for my first fitting on Saturday, only to be asked to take it home due to the shop being re-furbished...
On closer inspection the dress that I have is the sample dress, the woman in the shop has fobbed me off with it.. saying that it's a new one.
Mum's going down tomorrow to see what she can do, as £800 isn't cheap for a shitty dress thats knackered.
Should i inform trading standards as of yet? Or wait untill what happens tomorrow when my mum visits...
Any advice guys would be greatly appreciated!!

Did you get terms and conditions when you ordered? How do you know its a sample dress?

You are sure it's the sample dress? That's shocking! You just don't do that with a woman and her wedding dress.

I may very well do cosmo...
Well it's a different size to begin with.. size on one end is cut out...
Beads are missing, marks are on the dress...
Holes in the bottom that look like shoe holes, and there some netting that has holes in everywhere...
Clasp on the back is open and bent and wont stay shut...

Mr Cosmo is it a family company that your dad owns and you are part of? Or have you outright taken over? CS discount if ever I get married? (God forbid it's ever to Eck The sympathy alone would knock hundreds off the price)

Shelley - my Mum and Sis set up one shop. I went on board doing the business side of things and we have since expanded to 6 shops.

Seriously? I'd go bananas. There's no way they can deny that. It may have been a mistake but I highly doubt it. Go see them tomorrow and if you get nowhere, trading standards. Sorry to hear that's happened anyway, imagine it to be quite upsetting.

It's hardly a mistake, when i went in to be measured i got to try the 'sample' dress on again and the woman said that someone that afternoon would be coming to collect it...

One a serious note though, we are the biggest independant bridal retailer in the NW (probably in the UK actually) so she should of come to us

Do you know if they ever made a dress for you?
It obviously isn't fit for sale, so take it back and see what they are willing to do - either a full refund or your dress.
If you have problems then take it further.
Also, make sure you take photos of the dress (showing problems, marks etc) and make sure you have them time/date stamped (most cameras have the option).

Shops do sell off sample dresses, but they have to advertise them as so.
When dresses come in from the designers you should have ZERO marks on it, let alone rips, broken clasps, missing beads, etc. They are literally made, bagged up and sent in sealed bags so nothing can happen.

The problem is you have taken it home now, and I know they'll say that is wasnt like that when it left the shop.

And they cant say i changed the size of the dress at home etc...

So no, unless she has a note with an order number to say she has ordered it then no i have no proof, apart from that fact i have paid £800 for the bastard.

yeah this could be a problem and they could spout that you should have checked the dress when picking it up. Although i doubt it would stand, as why would a bride rip up her own dress?
If they are being arsey, obviously seek legal action but you could threaten to get the local papers involved and spread it across wedding forums/sites - has worked for a few people in solving this sort of thing.

Aye, already posted on a wedding forum... told fellow brides 2 be about it all..
She said to take it home etc and bring it back in 2 weeks as they are doing 'refurbishment'

Believe me it does happen
The company who made it should really be getting involved here. As the shop is selling off samples (which suppliers hate) and saying they are new. They'll be able to tell you if one was ordered or not.
The shop will also be able to prove if the dress is new - they'll have an order confirmation from the supplier, a delivery note and also an invoice with a reference on it that will link to you some how (we use brides surnames).

Stevie's wouldn't tell me a think apart from that fact that the dress is not discontinued, when the woman said it was!
