Ive just "moved in" today, spent most of the day making the back fence (as seen in the pic) fox proof, Ive dug a trench about 2 feet deep and buried chicken wire in there to stop the bastards digging under the fence and getting at my chickens, the chicken wire then comes about another 2 feet up the fence so they cant squeeze through the bars

I am stood at the gate as you look at the pic, behind the back fence are quite thick weeds and trees and backs onto a feild with a footpath so I think Im going to put barbed wire on that to stop anyone breaking in.

my 2 sheds, one for the chickens and one for me are going to go on the right hand side about half way along, and to the left more up towards the gate end I am going to have my vegie patch to see what I can grow, need to make a little fence to keep the chickens out of that .

Il update along the way for anyone who might be interested

Fucking hell, I was imagining you'd get what we have round here - the shittest piece of land left in the town, with no form of fencing whatsoever

That is pretty ace though. How much is it setting you back a month?

its ace, Ive been on the waiting list for 5 years though, I was talking to one of the fellas on there about the waiting list and he said 7 new plots have been made and there were 15 people on the list. "were just glad to have got rid of the list" he said

"isnt there still 7 on the list" I asked

he said no 1 person said they wernt interested any more 3 people had taken up a plot on a different site and 3 have died!!!

2 quid a month

What made you want an allotment then, you're obviously a lot younger than all the other applicants (dead or alive )

my mates dad has had one for years, we used to go over there as teenagers and give him a lift digging stuff over and looking after the chickens, so I put my name down.

I think its nice to have my own little space too, turn it from a patch of grass into soething lovely I hope

really need to find a cheap shed so I can get my chickens though

That is quality for 28 notes a year, wouldn't mind one of them myself.

I'd have to have a shed and a gun to keep the wee plebs off my grass however.

my first plans are to get 2 sheds and make it really secure, the only real way for any knobs to get in are that back fence,

a few of the fellas who have plots further up sit there on a night with pellet guns and big torches shooting rats,, Ive had 3 of them off on my mates dads plot when we were kids

pity no one lives local to me, we have just gave away a wodden garange really good condition with tin panels covering it, would have been good for an allotment, no one wanted the twat nearly ended up going at it with an axe till someone finally rang up wanting it for an avarium or something.

Right, on Monday I dug out my small vegetable patch, only putting spuds in this year, Il try and be a little more adventurous next year, chickens love potatoes though so Ive had to knock up a little fence using old bits of 2x2 that my dad is ripping out at work. so Ive done that and painted it white, it has chicken wire in it you cant see it on the pic, you can also see my belfast sink, thats going to be full of flowers

then on wednesday Mike B took me to the next town to pick up a shed, I somehow managed today to put the whole thing together on my own. I then gave it 3 coats of stain. its on the piss now so I could paint the back, Il turn it round tomorrow

Im going out tonight to rob some paving slabs from an empty house in the sticks so Its up off the damp grass A: so it doesnt rot and B: so the chickens dont get damp

Picture 1 shed (to be straightened

Pic 2: vegie patch and sing/flowerbed need to get some grass seeds down here

Looks brilliant, at least it gives you something to do while you are otu of work as well, plus its a proper cheap and natural way of keeping fit, cant go wrong really. Might even be able to start a business off it, farmer Matt
