why? is it because of your lack of space and tools, lack of knowldge or just general laziness? More curious than anything else. myself personally do everything myself, if i dont have the right equipment i borrow, if i dont have space i find space. what about you?

Probably all of that with confidence being a factor as well. I used to pay people because I wasn't sure I would be doing it right, or if I took on a job and got it wrong I would end up thinking I could have gone and done some overtime in my own job and used that money to pay someone instead of ending up breaking the car worse than before I started

I only take my car to a garage if I get to the stage that I want to smash a window with rage, usually a rusty bolt.
On project cars....never as there is no rush.

IMHO everyone is capable to some extend but their level of confidence/skill effects two major aspects of a conversion or any extensive mechanical work:

a) How long it takes.
b) How safe it is afterwards.

Its true that experience is the best teacher but some people aren't very gifted in the practical department and know before they start that they are going to f**k it up.

...And personally I think someone who is willing to admit they are not capable is far better than someone who THINKS they know what they are doing.

I do alot of work on my own engine but i have my mate there as well who has done a fair few engine swaps and engine work, I actually prefer to do it myself.

I've not done a conversion but I would like to one day for the craic.

I wouldn't pay anybody because I hate paying good money for something that's not that difficult and I can do it myself.

I also like learning how to do things.

I got a mate to help me, used his garage and his time off work so I paid him for that which I thought was fair enough...

I wouldn't give my car away and pay £1500 or whatever for a conversion though, I would rather learn how to do things so you know vaguely what to do when things go wrong

I would never pay someone to do a conversion.

Plenty of help on here, mig etc so any mug with a halfords socket set and a bit patience could do it.

I paid for my first one because i would not have known where to start. After owning, doing stuff myself and taking it out 3 or 4 times Id be very confident to do another now with the exception of the wiring.
