Well, what a crazy insane Saturday i had.
I got asked a while back by my friends Liam & Emma to be the photographer for their wedding on May 30th. I was a bit apprehensive at first, its a big responsibilty and im more of a sports photographer than a wedding one. After i few discussions i decided to take the plunge and give it a go. I did months of research, looking at all my favourite wedding photographers and analysing thier work.
I knew it was going to be hard, not withstanding the fact id never done anything like this before, unlike the pros i only had one camera body, this was going to be my big challenge for the day really, you have to be on your toes constantly and plan ahead, always thinking what lens i would need on for any given moment. Not to mention i had to haul around 3 tripods
It was a very hard day, i was shattered by the end of it but i gave it my all and im happy with what ive come away with. 600 photos taken about 60 that i like.
Equipment used: Nikon D300 w/ battery grip, 18-70mm, 10.5mm, 80-200, 50mm & 2 SB-800s
Ive put the photos in order of the day, enjoy:

Its a shame i cant put them up bigger really. I've made a slideshow with their first dance song as the music and in 1440x900 res they look much better, but i think it would kill the internet if i put them all up like that haha.

That. Is. Awesome.
Bet the couple are chuffed to bits. Amazed how good the disco/dance shots have come out too, must've been proper dark in there to focus!

Pitch black really, but with them shots you dont really focus, kinda point the camera in the right direction, half way down to focus for less than a second the shoot with rear curtain flash and twist the camera about for the light trails. Its the second flash that captures the image anyway.
Think the settings were 1/3s, 7.1, iso200. Manual mode obviously, rear curtain flash

What's the smallest f-stop's of all your lenses?
I'm in a position a bit like yourself, mainly into sports and stuff like that but I also keep getting asked to do weddings but I dunno if I'm ready.
Everyone on various forums goes on about how you need a 5D II with 6,400 ISO being used a lot shooting at f/1.2 with several £1k+ primes like the 50L, 85L and so on.
I always thought people were going a bit extreme, but maybe you really do need that if you're going to do it regally as I guess some couples pick very dark, quiet churches as well, but it looks like you got lucky as the light seems good. That'd be my biggest worry.
Were they happy with them? I never know what people expect. Once again, I see various couples coming onto photography forums posting up (in my opinion) good images complaining at how awful they are and not happy that they paid £800 for them. Other examples are couples being happy paying more for a LOT worse pictures than yours, so I guess it entirely depends on each couple.
Can I ask how much you charged? U2U me if you wish. I understand that they're friends but most of the people asking me are friends of friends so I'm trying to get an idea together.
But regarding your pictures, if I came up and could supply those pictures to the couple I'd be happy although I would have changed a few things on the PP but that's just me. For example, the massive group shot had a lot of wasted space above and with it cropped I think it would have been a superb shot.
Also not sure about the 'nightclub photography' theme at a wedding, but I guess you didn't have a great lot of choice if it was pitch black.
Overall, superb set mate.

6,400 iso I never went above 1000 at 2.8 and it was very dark in the lodge for the pre wedding shots as it was inside the hall.
You will need a flash (or 2) i had mine onboard my camera all day and for the set up shots i used both (off camera) so you will need to know how to set them up too, as well as deciding if your going to bounce the light etc. You have to think on your feet very fast.
They paid me £400 for that, which i thought was more than fair, id never shot a wedding before, it was a gamble for them but they had seen my other pics and said the photographers they were looking at were charging more than double and their photos weren't as good.
Overall i kind of enjoyed it, easily one of the most challenging things ive ever shot, i had to use all my knowledge about photography that day. I wouldnt recommend it if your unsure on how to set up lighting and a camera in a few seconds.
For instance, the couple are having the first kiss, you take a shot, flash too powerful/underexposed, you gotta quickly think do i adjust the flash setting, set a higher/lower f stop. Remembering with a flash on board the fastest you can shoot at is 1/250. Its all very very stressful but i guess thats why the best ones charge £3000 a pop.
Have a go if you think you can do all that, you gotta start somewhere. Oh and research is the key, i did lots and had an good idea in my head before the day about exactly what i wanted to get and i think i covered everything.
Ta for the comments anyway Luke. All appreciated.

Emma will not be happy you called her dad Wayne Rooney hahaha
He was a funny guy, especially at dancing. One of my favourites is him with his arms spread out with emma pissing herself laughing in the bg
