Do amplifiers for audio, have a negative because I only have a positive.
My amp isn't powering, just bought another one and that one also isn't powering, so it's loose wires somewhere along the line or idk...
help

Hmmm, that would handy if you did - good for diagnosis
Does it power up at all, i.e. does the protect light come on? Or, is it there no sign of life at all?

The light does not power on at all
The connection on the battery (positive) is definitely secure, as is the two big plugs that go into the back of the CD player (coloured white + red), and then the same connection on the other end (amp) is definitely secure...so there is power available but some reason it's not getting any. The amp is definitely not blown.
I started having problems when I tried to tap a cigarette lighter into my audio wires, there was a yellow wire marked "battery", so i put on end of the cig lighter in that, then ran an earth.
I couldn't have blown my amp because I'm using a new one now.

check your fuses you should have a fuse on the main power cable, also you want to run the remote cable from the switched live on the back of the head unit and you need a good ground under the seat belt bolt is good just needs a little filing to take it to bare metal. ground must be touching bare metal

There's 2 fuses in my old amp (20) and one in the new amp (25), is there fuses in the fusebox too?
May the earth cable be coming from the back of the cd player (not out the cd player but from the plug before the cd player), a tiny blue one?

ok you want to run a power cable straight from your battery to the +12v on the Amp, this should really have an inline fuse in the cable, you then want to run a remote from the backof the headunit, you will probably need a live tester to find this unless it says on the headunit, or if you give me the make and model i'll find the instructions and tell you which cable, then finally the ground (-12v) should come directly from your amp to a place where it can be bolted against bare metal, like i said the seat belt belt under there just strip the paint off.

I know fuck all about electrics...I had it professionally fitted about 2 years ago and now it doesn't work because I tried to tap a cig lighter into the electrics...
It's already been set up and it was running before mate, it's just stopped working

ok you need to connect the remote cable from the amp to the red cable that comes out of the headunit. and run the ground to the seat belt bolt.

There will already be a ground, my remote is connected with the two power cables at the amp and runs behind the head unit, let me go check if it's connected to that red cable.

Right mate there's a few red cables...
one starts off red, then goes yellow through a inline fuse or some type of plastic connection and is labelled 'battery', another the opposite colours and is labelled 'ACC'.
I can see that my remote wire is loose and not connected to anything, do I just force it in the pinhole where the red cable is too?
and which cable? thanks

I should imagine it's the ACC one else the two wires would probably be connected (battery & remote) at the amp as well...which they're not, they have different connections.
I don't want to do anything on my own though and blow my amp. lol

just tried that, you know where the red bit of the wire connects through the plastic bit into the yellow bit?
I pulled the plastic sleeve down, fed the blue remote wire into the plastic bit and made sure it was touching the red ACC wire.
No success
No bass when I turned the stereo on and the amp still hasn't powered on...

I have c/locking, I locked the car, unlocked it, started the stereo up again and it didn't work (I always do that just to reset the amp...so to speak).

No, it's two thick blue wires, wrapped in insulation tape, with the remote wire. It runs to the back of my CD player where two thick blue wires (with small circles, one red, one white).
It has about 3 black boxes where wires all change behind the cd player...lol
