Went with a friend to get his car mapped today. 'Phase one EDS' aparanty.
On the way home giving it some beans (warm day), he .wasnt impressed. So i drove home for a while, and gave it some beans, and we found it very hesitant.
From 3000 revs in 2nd (30 mph), boot it, it comes on boost, hesistates (so much it feels like you have taken your foot off the throttle) and does the same again at nearly 4k, then pulls to the redline which is set stupid high in my opinion (over 7k rpm - off the clocks).
The guy says its its AFM. It wasnt showing any faults, but he says its old (was 53 plate car done 55k), and its not just at its full potential, and now its been mapped, the car is damanding more and it cant cope. Would this throw up and engine management light though?
Is he bullshitting?
Any help appreciated
Ps, he took us for a spin in his 340 bhp astra coupe, which went quiet well too once you got going (first and second gear useless)

Sounds like AFM or boost solenoid.
Common fault, easy fix.

Plug a code reader in, see what comes up. But if it is the AFM it would throw up the EML straight away, the car would idle slightly funny. the code will be p0100 for AFM.
Doesnt sound like the AFM though.
Could be one of a number of things, Is comon for boost solenoids to fail, there are 2 of them. Check the actuator isnt sticking. Check for leaks in the vacum pipes, there are a few that run down the back of the engine into the rear solenoid and vacum box, check that all these are connected they sometimes pop off.
What boost does the car now hold ? What intercooler is on the car ?

Cheers guys
Boost solenoid has been changed (he said in general convo earlier). but didnt realise there is two!
Had a code reader in, and nothing comes up.
Not a clue what boost it holds (no gauge to check) and it has standard cooler on the car.
Its only running 'phase 1' so i would of thought the stock cooler would be fine.

Frostyd @ it was mapped by 'Toms turbo's' in boston boston lincs who says he works on behalf of regal......
Also frosty, for what he did, my little sister could of done it, so i think its irrelivant tbh
R1CH @ We gapped he plugs correctly when we got back as we thought this was the case, but it still has the problems.
Gapped at 0.65
Cole @ you have the same map on your Zafira? (Phase one) Was you impressed?. So your saying you changed the plugs and it emliminated the hesistance.
Shep @ Did you changed your AFM? Did you have the same problem then?
Appreciate it guys

How does it idle ? does it fluctuate ?
An AFM prob would flag straight up though.
Get TOMS TURBOS to put original map back on, see how the car is then.

Idles fine, and never had the problem before. Was straight after it was mapped.
He says the AFM works, but its not upto the new demands of the map, hence no EML light
Thanks again chaps

Standard ZLET AFM is still well within its limit on a phase 1 map.

Yeah easily
But some things trigger problems that are already underlying
When I fitted my exhast I started having trouble with my AFM, I wasn't believing the exhaust knackered the AFM, but when I renewed it, the car was fine
