We've hired one before here and I used it most of the day - took me maybe 10mins to get used to it then it was a piece of piss.

Also think £50 was cheaper than what we got it for so not a bad price.

we use them quite often for digging footings and ripping out alot of soil. 3/4ton is pretty gutless but is ok for light landscaping. its about 50 a day then you have to pay extra for different buckets

Worst that happened to me was I tried to dig out a fairly large amount from the bottom of a hole when sideways on (so tracks werent giving me support) - the thing tilted right in the hole and rested on its arm. Had to push it out using the arm slowly but all was good.

Piss easy. £50 is very cheap too, usuall come with a narrow bucket, medium sized bucket and a ditching bucket.

Watch for cables, have someone watching where you are digging, if they see a cable, stop, and expose the cable by hand. Move it out the way and carry on.

And there will be instructions in the cab to show you what lever does what

we had one a few years back. we had to get the smallest one available as the only access to the back garden is a 35 inch wide path. this meant it was the shittest one too. the controls we a bit eratic and all the markings had come off so you forget what lever does what. i crushed a wheel barrow with it by pulling the wrong lever.

They show you what the controls do when dropping them off. They're easy to use after you've got used to the way they work.
