No threads here from what I can see.

Anyone been watching it? Got today off work, so that's my day sorted.

Getting a bit pissed off with all this Pietersen bashing, he made a mistake, it was a stupid shot, so what, he was still top scorer in the 1st innings for us. He's still our best batsman.

336-7 from the first day, good score for england so far imo. Unlike the commentators who reckon it was an Aussie day yesterday

I would like to watch it, but I find my mind wandering away from it after a while.

Weren't we at 315-5 and then lost two in quick succession?

Decent score to start with, I suspect that the country will only take notice if it looks like we are going to win.

Yeah, we were doing well, then the ball started swinging a fair bit, someone got Prior and Flintoff out towards the end of the day yesterday.

Just lost a wicket today, 355-8, should be looking at 370-400 really, which against the Aussies is a decent score, and the pitch will be deteriorating, which should be better for our spinners when we bowl

Trouble is the last batsman to go out are usually the bowling specialist and end up getting around 3 runs between them.

If we get to 400 that will be a good start.

Monty Panesar.... average of 5 or something is our last in, but Swann and Anderson are relatively good batsmen for bowlers and they're in at the moment, 384-8 now, so 400 is definately realistic

435 all out, Swann went a bit crazy on them at the end! 47 n.o. at the end, our last 100 runs came from 100 balls!

Pretty good that, gives us a good total to bowl at

Pietersen threw his wicket away, he is indeed our best batsman that's why we need him to stick around and make hundreds, not get out making fuckwitted shots like that.
It just shows you the difference between a good batsman like Pietersen and a great batsman like Ponting, who was able to get his hundred yesterday without looking like doing anything daft.

Also for all the discussion about Australia's attack being substandard now Warne and McGrath have retired England's own bowling looks decidedly unthreatening, it looks like Flintoff's going to have to bowl a lot of overs this summer if England are going to get anyone out.

Got a few out before lunch at least, they're 348-4 at Lunch, Ponting finally out for 150 (apparently threw away his wicket a bit)

Ponting played onto his own wicket. Went to slog Panesar and BANG, wickets everywhere.

Lee is out of the second test, and Flintoff is quiting after the ashes, can't blame him, if he can't stay fit, and his body is that fucked try and extend his career in the shorter forms of the game, 20twenty etc.

Yeah Flintoff had no choice really. Good news about Lee too. Although unless we change it up a bit it won't matter

Yeah, we need at least 1 bowler to step up, and all the batsmen to go on from decent starts, otherwise we're screwed.

I guess Monty will be out for Onions, and if Flintoff doesn't play then Harmison in for hiim

Can Onions bat? As losing Flintoff for Harmison would mean one less batsman, effectively anyway.

Fair point, not sure tbh, but we do have a fairly strong batting line-up on paper at the moment, down to prior and even swann, so decent batting down to 7
- Strauss, Cook, although i think he's shit for england anyway, Bopara, Pietersen, apparently rated 50-50 for 2nd test, Collingwood, Prior, then Swann, Broad (again not a bad batsman), Onions, Andersen, Harmison. Imo.

Cook has apparently got a good record for England, but I can't recal him ever playing well for us, and the Aussies have a very good record against us at Lords too, so not holding too much hope for this test, by the look of the Weather this week it could be screwed up a bit anyway

95 for Cook, I was close

Strauss on the other hand

We still need to push on for 450+ though. I'd take a draw from this test tbh. Not being negative, just we don't have a good record at Lords against the Convicts, and if we get past this on 0-0 we'll push on IMO.
