Sorry for cluttering up the corsa forum again but I know a few people on here have had them.
Brother wants me to give him a lift to go and look at one. Just wondered if there is anything paticular to watch out for. I know there was an issue with making sure the oil was kept topped up but thats about it.
Rust in places?
BTW its a 02 plate I think thats mk5
Cheers Gavin

ahh yes, i confused myself
check usual places for rot as they like to do it. arches, etc.
check the oil and ask when he last topped it up, they can go pop due to lack of oil as they like using it.. just look for what you usually would do

I think rust and oil drinking are the main problems

only issue is the guys a mechanic so saying its had a new belt, head gasket etc is all well and good but isnt worth much without proof.
So using a little oil is normal. Just dont want my bro to end up with a car like my gsi that drinks it by the gallon

drop links, front wishbone bushes, for some reason the engines are shit! you want the black top engine not the silver top, suposively quicker, heavy rust around the rear arches, crash damage( paint drips ect)
check the heaters work too! oh yeh also check the feel off the clutch pedal as they have internal hydraulic clutch relase bearings, make sure theres no leeks around the bell housing as these leak

We've got one Common Issues:
- They drink oil; if the warning light comes on you literally have to stop. Missus did 10 miles after the warning light came on and the engine had to be replaced. Don't let an engine swap put you off, its probably for this reason.
- Fog lights; you can not buy these for love nor money so make sure they're not smashed, they have a glass front and break easily
- rust in the usual ford places, rear wheel arches, bottom edge of door and bonnet lip
apart from those and a blown radiator we've not really had any problems with it, plsu most problems are easy to fix

Love them in silver, on the deck.
Does the RS1800 engine fit in? Fit that to it, would be an awesome car.

Common faults:
Rear arch rust
Heater control value
Rear h beam bushes (listen for a knock at the rear)
Front wishbone bushes
Check oil reguly and if the light comes on STOP
ABS sensors
Airbag ecu
On a whole though they are a great car for what you can pick them up for now. Handle realy well out of the box and even just dropped 40mm on spax spring handles even better. Only downside ive found is they arnt quite quick enough in a straight line but because of the handling you can keep that speed up through the corners.

They need throttle bodies and cams to be a very good track car IMO.
