they'll want to fit it to a telephone line but you can unplug it and still have all the playbackability.

after the 12 months though you can disconnect no problem

You can have it disconnected as soon as the sky guy walks out of the door, same as every single box in my house.

Exactly.
Ive unplugged every box we've had since Sky have had them linked to the phone lines, same at my sisters and my apartment.
Not had a call once about it.

None, I just don't have phonelines anywhere near any of the boxes and couldn't be annoyed running them.

unless a subbie fitted the boxes or you did yourselve a sky engineer would have had to run phone cable to each box as they MUST be connected for the 1st 12 months

All mine were fitted by a Sky engineer. I ran an extension cable when he came from the nearest phoneline and told him I'd fit it round the room at a later date. Unplugged it when he went an no problem.
You may have to have it plugged in according to Sky, but I know 100% you dont NEED to.

Infact, we've had the Sky engineers out a few times since we've had it and theyve never said a thing when theyve turned up and its not been plugged into a phone line.

for operational purposes it doesnt need to be plugged in but for new installs and service calls within the 1st 12 months the box must be able to perform a callback this needs a phoneline after the 12 months its up to the individual if they want to unplug

Well Im not sure if that is just Sky's way to make you keep it plugged in, as we've had zero problems.

Mine has been unplugged since the guy left also, not heard anything off them. If I want to order a film or sports event then I just ring up.

All my installs have been done by guys in sky vans.
Last one when I was getting HD in he didn't care that nothing was plugged into a phoneline, I had ran a bit of wire up the stairs for the phoneline, he told me to take it out as soon as he was away.
You have much to learn about sky young Edd.

I told the engineer I was going to unplug the extension cable I'd rigged up for him as soon as he left, he had no problem with it.
I also had 3 different engineers come out to relocate my dish 3 times due to a tree all within the first 6 months and none said anything about the phoneline being disconected(they all noticed as its popped on the screen when the box is restarted)

If its not plugged in when you have multi-room you'll get billed double.
We have been and so have loads of our customers at work.
It's in your contract that it must be connected during the first 12months but it doesn't affect anything if you only have the one box.
