I'm looking to upgrade the pishy 1.0 12v bmx brakes that are on the car just now to the 2.0 16v ones. instead of using the standard discs and pads wheres the best place to get brand new ones from? im not wanting to spend a lot of money as its only a brake upgrade and its only a 1.0 engine. i have a set of cavy slabs on the car as well FYI.

iirc 2.0 Brakes and V6 brakes are 5 Stud so you would need to re-drill them as your Corsa is 4 stud. (There is a template on MIG)
or
You could buy 4 stud big brake packs for £200+ on LMF.
or
You could get some 1.6 sport brakes from the scrappers cheap, bolt them stright on then get some new disks and pads from your local auto factors for £40 a set.

/\ the 1.6 sport brakes are the same size as 2.0 brakes, just slightly thinner.

Your pedal will probably go straight to the floor. I hate my 2.0 brakes. As far as i've worked out the master cylinders on Corsa's are wank and imo are gash with the 2.0 set up. Good luck

My V6's are good, pedal takes a bit to get used to but it's nothing bad.

I disagree, the v6's yes, but the 2.0 ones are fine

I just hate going for the brakes and not having anything there til your foots halfway to the floor. I'm looking at uprated MC's but can't find one to suit the corsa's vertical jobby. Grrr

think people use mondeo MC's to counteract this problem mate not 100% tho
Astra GSi and Corsa GSi breaks are 256/8 (canny remember wither its 6 or 8 lol) so they should be just ok

2.0 ones are 4 stud.
200 for brakes to stop a 1.0 is far too much. its my first car as well so...
the scrappies would be fine for calipers but the discs are normally fukced.
im really just looking for a supplier that would sell fairly cheap and cheerfull discs and pads to replace the ones on the 2.0. catch ma drift?

I didn't realise the 2.0 ones were 4 stud.
Just buy some new 2.0 discs from your local motor factors but get the calipers from the scrappy.
Job done.

are the sport calipers the same size as the 2.0 ones?

turbo calipers dont have the spongy feel if v6 ones. i have 305mil 4 pots on a corsa master cylinder work great. never understand all these people saying about master cylinder problems.

How much travel on the pedal before it bites? Do you still have drums on the rear?

Mine are fine, i soo noticed the better braking when approaching speed humps you dont know about

if youre lucky you should be able to find a completely 2.0 setup at a scrappy with decent discs and pads.

I got 2.0 brakes of a 2.0 vectra estate from scrapyard at the weekend. They were 4 stud and it was an R reg. I think its older vectras that are 4 stud. The disks were like new so i has them away aswell for £30 they arnt spongy either

No,the 2.0 16v calipers are alot bigger than sport calipers.

The pedal travel doesn't take much getting used to on 2.0 16v brakes and it's not that bad at all. Stop MUCH better than Sport brakes as well.
