I'm currently insured with them as they beat any quotes, especially as I have a claim. The reasoning for this is that I was a full time student.
Anyway, I call up today as I haven't received my renewal (due 29th August). The guy apologised and said I should have received it. Anyway, he pulls up the renewal. £460. Happy days. I paid £602 last year. So with 1 extra NCB (taking it to 2) and being 21, it actually dropped.
I then said "everything is the same, except I'm no longer a student".
"Oh" he says. "That will make a difference as you'll lose you 48% discount". Yes FORTY EIGHT percent discount as you aren't a student. "Your renewal will now be £716."
*silence*
"Sir?"
"So you mean to say, just because I'm no longer a student and actually have a job, it goes up by £250?".
"Yes".
"So I have 1 more NCB, I am now 21 but my renewal goes up".
"Yes".
"If you can't get it down to the student renewal price, I'll be leaving".
"There is nothing we can do".
"Ok, you've just lost my custom. Bye".
I. Mean. What. The. Fuck?.
Crazy crazy insurance company.
So the hunt continues for £400 insurance, but not being a student

Thats awful. I was paying £700 at 18 with the same car as you in a full time job. At 21 I'm now paying just over £300 on a Golf diesel worth 5 times more than my original Corsa!
Get yourself on direct line for a quote, they've been banging out really good quotes recently.

What do you mean if that is your reaction? Do you not see my point?
My insurance goes up by £250, just because of a change of occupation (which incidentally isn't high risk). I am still the same person, and if anything a 'responsible adult' and not 'rowdy student' and it goes up.

But it didn't. And it's my responsibility to know whether it did or didn't. People seem to forget insurance companies aren't your friend. They're there to make money, and will not pay out if they can in any way.

I've never understood it myself, certain occupations I can understand (bouncer etc) but when I went from a Petrol Station Assistant to Rail Worker it went down, worked in my favour this time obviously but still doesn't make sense.
Proves the theory that they just make it up as they go along.

Don't think so, ring as you'll ge the best price. I'm 20 with 1 NCB with an Astra SXi with all my mods declared and I'm paying £800, which I didn't think was too bad. Saved over £500 from last year so can't be bad.

Admittedly I tried them and they said "it's going to be over £1400" and to go with Churchill when I tried them this year But at least they were honest
