Work are really starting to fuck me off at the moment. Recently I've had a holiday request declined because a project has been pushed back and there's a "company wide" block on holiday during that particular period (even though I'm nothing to do with the work)
Then they've been getting us to put in extra hours and on-call all over the place, and now saying on-call will become a permanent part of our work requirments.
But the bit that's really fucked me off now, despite keeping my cool about this other stuff, is that they've now revoked our "dress down Friday's"
I'm part of the IS department which are allowed to have this perk at the end of the week, but as we're located in a "Group Membership" building (call centre in other words), we have to adhere to their dress code now. However, they have random dress down days but without telling us because we're "not part of their teams"
Anyway, the rules go like this:
Suitable
blouse/shirts with long/short sleeves
short sleeved tops as long as they cover shoulders
smart casual shirts with a collar eg. polo
smart t-shirts
smart shirts
tailored jackets (optional)
tailored trousers
cardigans
jumpers
skirts
dresses
boots, Shoes or sandals
Not suitable on any day
strappy tops
t-shirts - scruffy or with offensive logos and/or statements
clothes that leave the midriff bare or low cut tops
shorts of any kind
tracksuit bottoms
beach flip flops
I'm sick to death of wearing black pants & shirt to be honest.. I don't feel it benefits my work in any way. I'm not customer facing and infact I'm uncomfortable wearing this shit so if anything, I feel I work better on a Friday when I'm comfortable and happy.
I worked at Sky for over a year in the same sort of department, and they didn't have a dress code any day of the week. That worked fine, and proved to me that it's an old fashioned snobbery way of working.
Can anyone suggest an alternative to the typical black suit-type trousers that I'm currently wearing, keeping in line with the dress code I posted above?
In the meantime, I'm now off to look for a new job.. been here long enough now anyway.

Tailored trousers just mean smart trousers either ones come as part of a suit or that you buy on their own.
Not jeans, trackies etc.

So buy grey ones, beige ones, dockers, white ones, tidy cargo trousers......
tbh that policy seems totally fair on clothing. Can't comment on the other situations as im not getting involved in that one 
You want to count yourself lucky you don#'t work at McDonalds and wear a hair net.
I don't have a "code" as such, but still come in trousers and shirt everyday. As an IT professional, i'd expect this as a miniumum.
Either that or black cargo trousers with company polo shirt for the handy pockets.

Dress code ftl.
I can wear what I want, but tend to wear the company polo shirts and trousers purely so I don't get my own stuff dirty. Comfy clothes make work easier though, it's very true

sounds fair.
i wear tracksuit bottoms and whatever t-shirt i feel like to work. supposed to wear black trousers and a polo shirt with the ford logo on it but the material is shite and makes you sweat.

Smart jeans (but not scruffy or torn ones) and trainers may be worn.
...so from this I take it that jeans aren't allowed anymore for me.
Up to now, I've followed the smarter approach, as the other departments seem to be wearing the suit-type pants and smart shirts etc.. But now they want us to wear it everyday, I want to be comfortable in it, so was thinking along the lines of these with a polo shirt and some tidy beige work boots.
I'm in the IS department, but I'm very involved in the installation and cabling of servers in the data centre. Lots of messing under the floor on hands an knees etc.. something which we often tried to put off until a Friday so we could do it in thick jeans and boots. I've ripped a hole in 2 pairs of smart trousers in 6 months working here.

I have a similar dress code but just wear a polo top and pants. Hardly ever see customers face to face so don't see why it's so strict. Our Florida office gets to wear shorts

So what, put normal jeans on, and save your scruffy crap for the evening?

That's not what I'm saying... I think we've got our wires crossed.
In my original post I said they are revoking our "dress down Fridays"- this only applies to about 6 of us who work in IS, but in the wrong building. So we now need to adhere to the building's dress code rather than our own department's dress code.
The reason I added the bit about Friday's dress code is that smart jeans must be considered to be "dress down"... even though they're not specified as not allowed in the smart dress code.

WAs there not some rule that if a company wants to implement a dress code they must supply/pay for it because it's classed as a uniform?

I work in an office and we dont really have a dress code. Today for example I wore shorts & a polo shirt.
Generally folk know what is acceptable, and was isn't. Worked there for 5 years and never known anyone be told that what they are wearing is unacceptable.

Feel lucky that you still pretty much get to wear whatever you like. Most office types have to wear a shirt and tie all day. Don't see what the problem is tbh.
