Right, if all falls through i should be getting my hands on a few bits in a few weeks. These bits are:

C20XE with box, loom
Weber 45's with ECU iirc
Mounts
Shafts
Hubs
Brakes

I know a few bits ill need like exhaust etc, but my biggest question was about the carbs.

What do i need?
I know i need a fuel pump, is this one ok?

If so, what union size would i need?

Also, i'll need a fuel pressure regulator, which one will i need?

If theres anything people know about putting carbs on redtops, please speak up

alright matey, id stick with the stock pump and get a FPR. you wont have to dick about changing pump and the FPR will drop the pressure to a max 4.5psi, which is more than enough for a set of carbs.

space is also quite tight on number one cylinder so may have to either ruun short trumpets/filters or id maybe even think about cutting the bulkhead out around that area to give you more space.

when you mean ecu, what sort of ecu? just with the 45s you shouldnt have much more than 3 or 4 wires for the engine.

So you don't need to change fuel pump? When you say keep the stock pump, do you mean my x14 one for the c20 one? Where's the best place to get a regulator from then?

Not to sure about the ecu. I'll ask and get back to you on that.

I've already come to the conclusion on cutting the bulkhead. Is it safe just cutting it or do you need to fabricate some kind of box?

its safe to just cut it mate and he means keep the 1.4 pump aslong as the fuel pump is a mpi one its fine and yours is.

you shouldnt need the ecu. you need to run a 1.6 dizzy with the carbs.

If you're on coil, you'll need to change to dizzy.
You're Ecu won't know it has carbs, hence the FPR, that'll just slow down the fuel, you may wanna get it setup at a rolling road to get the ignition timing and them running perfect.

regulate the 60 odd psi injection pump down to around 4.5 psi?

nic - yep, mate has done it to his xe on 45s last week and has kept the standard gsi fuel pump

you dont use an ecu jake my dear you get rid of it all. thats what the carbs and 1.6 dizzy are for. no wires at all. just old school dirty setting timing and carbs

mate had his on rollers friday and i think made 158bhp at wheels. his car fine with the injection pump and frp to get pressure down to between 1-4.5psi


each to their own though, but i know you can keep the inkection pump and have no problems

where you getting the car set up?

just if dont mind coming up to chester to have the car rolling roaded then my mates can supply you with one.

I've got a Facet Low pressure high volume pump and a Megajolt 3D ECU.

It can be done using a cav 8v dizzy but you won't get as much control over the advance.

If you go the megajolt route you will also need a trigger wheel, ford EDIS system and ford TPS.

It all depends on the budget really.

Cheers Ste, thats really helpful. What's the easiest/cheapest way of doing it?

Phil- No idea where im getting it set up, how much would you mate charge for the reg and to set it up?

No, Been getting ready for moving house so not touched it. Still needs that oil leak sorting from the crank seal

And while you have it, you could take it to your mate for tuning
