When I'm not able to sleep I try to do something really boring - like trying to count the number of stripes on my wallpaper or something. At first I think to myself 'this is never going to work' then before I know it it's time to get up.

Luke has a bad sleeping pattern, though when he does get sleep he does get plenty.

he goes to bed at about 1am, waking up about 12 noon.

However, i have known him to have a few nights where he has gone to bed about 4am and be awake again at about 8am, complaining of troubled sleeping.

Ignore his nonsense, he simply doesn't choose to try

what do you do in the day? If it's nothing physical, try going for a run or going to the gym or something like that. I have trouble sleeping when I don't do anything physical (I've got a month off work, which is why I'm awake at 1am lol) I work with racehorses which is one of the most physical jobs you can do so I'm up at 6am to be at work at 7 til 5.30/6pm and I can easily go to bed at half 8 and sleep right through to 6 again!

Lie on the end of the bed, You'll soon drop off.

Anyway, I find if you do something that wears you out, weather going to the gym or something that takes your mind off it all that usually helps.

A hot bath is meant to be good, the drop in body temperature after is meant to make you feel tired and sleepy.

Loads of things can effect your sleeping.

How is your diet? A bad one can cause you to struggle to get to sleep.

What is your typical sleeping pattern? You should look to get a regular sleeping pattern, ie. one that isnt going to bed ridiculously late and waking up half way though the day.

What do you do before you go to bed? Dont drink anything with stimulants in, i.e. caffeine, sugars, etc. Dont watch TV/go ont he net and then try to go to sleep, your brain will be active and you'll lie there struggling. Do something relaxing for 20mins before, and then go to sleep.

What do you do when you cant sleep? If you cant get to sleep then dont just lie there in bed. Get up and go and do something relaxing to calm your brain and then try again.

Mainly, you've got to figure out the main reason it is you're not sleeping. Are you worrying about something? Is it purely down to not having a proper sleeping pattern? etc.

TBH, Im probably the worst person to give advice though, as since Ive been about 14 Ive not got to sleep until the early hours and can survive off as little as 4-5hrs a night max. but then again that works for me and always has done. I work best between 10pm and around 2 or 3am in the morning, so my body has adapted to that.

Move your bed away from any sockets, cables or electrical appliances.
