Hard drive is the only thing worth destroying.

Or you could just take the hard drive out and destroy it.

Hard drive is the only place were it is saved, driving over it with any car or setting fire to it will not completly erase the data. we have a section in out warehouse that recovers info from laptops that the MOD use and they come back burnt and with bullet holes in and the data is still recovered. only way to do it is to use a very strong magnet.

He won't have a strong enough magnet lying about the house.

If it's physically broken as in the platters snapped nobody will be getting any data off it.

If it's damaged a bit and thrown in the bin nobody will be trying to pull anything off it anyway.

There is always the option of smelting it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NMlZ0eaPc8I&feature=related

Are they strong enough?

Last time I was looking at this a company had just developed some magnets strong enough to destroy the drive, that was through the casing right enough.

If your that paranoid, download an application that will do a gutmann pass on the drive after you have formatted it, then keep the drive in a box in your loft.

Andrew says he can get data off a drive that has been properly wiped with something like a gutmann pass
