Looking at popping the question, what would you say is a half decent price to spend on a ring. i know the g/f aint bothered with the whole "it should cost a months wages" etc
or has anyone got any idea on how much a ring cost to make, so its a one off etc etc

Ive just bought my missus one, proposing in Spain to her. As ive paid for the holiday ive cheaped out on the ring (), but tbh she isnt the sort to care how expensive something is, its the thought that counts with her.
So, Ive bought a nice looking ring for £300 to use it to propose to her, and then when I start earning proper money and we are both more established in our careers I will 'renew' it so to speak with a decent sized diamond one e.g. as a 5 year wedding anni present etc

1.5k at least. Also I see what your saying about get a cheap one then buy a better one later but the first one will always mean more, id pref not to be asked until it was a good ring. You want it to last forever remember!

Cost of ring should not matter.

Well im hoping the memory of being asked on her first ever trip abroad will last forever
Plus I have a habit of misplacing things, Id rather lose a £300 ring than £1.5k

well i took mymrs to the shop and let her choose the ring she wanted and i actually ended up making her get a more expensive one. at the end of the day it's what you can afford if shes asking you to spend money you don't have then i would question you actually asking.
its what it means not what it cost!

I spent £1500 on my ex-wifes ring
Already decided on the ring for my mrs that'll be popping the question with. Dependent on the size of the stone I want it'll be £2500+

I think what I done was while we were out shopping we had a look while passing the jeweller's to see what sort of thing she liked, strangely preferred the half caret diamond opposed to the dearer full caret one I was pushing for.
I know Jade prefers white gold so the band was a no brainer.
Went back on my own later to negotiate & buy
Price wise it was about 1.5k. Didn't want to get her a cheap one in case she took a look at it and says no!!
Ive since bought her a necklace and earrings to match in the same cut and setting.

My missus is a big fan of Welsh Gold - wishes she was Welsh I think - no idea why!
I'll probably go for this one at £1250 with Princess cut 1/4ct diamond
or with more of a traditional welsh gold colour
The same ring with a 1/2ct Diamond is £3250 which I just can't justify

Ash knows the score
I dont mean it like the cost is more important, I just think you need to spend at least that much to get a decent ring thats going to last.

Dont see the point in spending a fortune at all, wouldnt you rather have a £500 one and spend the other grand or so on a nice holiday for you both or even chuck it towards the wedding?

We spent £5k on the holiday................
But yeah that was an expensive 2 weeks, no expense spared holiday, ring, I got a Tag Watch. Think we tallied up about 9k all in. Worth it though, you cant put a price on memories.

Ring is to last a lifetime; the wedding is one day - I have a bigegr problem with spending a fortune on the wedding than on the ring tbh.
The average cost of a wedding at my missus' hotel is £20,000 to £25,000 not including cars/clothes etc etc. Thats just the food, marquee, ground hire, hotel and bedrooms and the civil wedding room hire.
I'd rather spend a bit more on the ring than spunk so much on the "big day"
