I'd start some gentle running locally and cycling to begin with to see how fit/unfit you are. Better this way than showing yourself up in the gym!

Then when you are happy with your current fitness see about joining a gym, maybe go for a couple of sessions first, usually £8 a visit. Then once you have joined, start easy with the tradmills, bikes and corss trainers and move on to the machines, I'd recommend them first over the free weights whilst you get a feel for the differant exercises. Then you can move on to doing things with dumb bells or a bar.

Once you are happy with everything you can see about putting a weekly routine together.

I know of Howe of Fife, not sure where they are based though? They are in Premier 3 now, same as my local team. Its developed into some kind of rivalry recently
