I know that theres a few people on here who work or have an interest in aviation, but has anyone done one of those flying experience days? Quite fancy having a go at it and wonder if it's any good?

I've actually just been given a Half Hour flying lesson by my girlfriend. I am so excited to do it! I have a year to do it in so i may wait until the spring time and some better weather.

I think its a Sessner sp*, they use.

Not usually bothered about spelling, but it's Cessna. Sessner sound like the Birmigham version or something.

I got an hour lesson for my 18th birthday, loved every second. Flew from Cranfield to my house about 10 miles away, over to Milton Keynes and then back. I even helped to land it

Would have loved to carried on and get my PPL, but its so damn expensive

I was at the Bournemouth airshow a few weeks ago, just waiting at around 4pm on a Sunday on the beach and boom a Eurofighter Typhoon came screaming over the cliff very low! The noise was absolutely immense, so so loud it was nearly deafening! That made the hairs on the back of my neck stand!

I kept going on about it to my girlfriend, thats why i have the flying experience!

Yeah, I got one for my 21st, was pretty amazing tbh.

I want a go with helicopters but it's much much more expensive.

Most places will do you a 'trial lesson'. Different licensing and other boring things to do with Aviation Law prevent places from doing 'pleasure flights'. If you don't mind flying then you'll enjoy going up in a light aircraft a lot! Most places will take you for a 30 min flight to some interesting places nearby and let you have a go at the controls, though I'm sure you can go up for longer if you wanted to

been looking around on t'internet at local flight schools and it seems to do my PPL would cost me about £7k... not bad I suppose but that's just the start of it if you want a career in aviation! Trial lessons seem to be around £100 so think I will be considering doing one of those soon which would be cool!

For the most part you don't.

Until the credit crunch HSBC had a bond arrangement to pay for it but there's nothing like that anymore.

Need a lottery win or a rich mummy and daddy unfortunately.

When i looked into it there was a scheme called CTC Wings. Google it.

I'm not sure if it still exists but it was like a sponsorship, i believe it was very very hard to get a place on it but obviously rewarding if you aspire to be a pilot!

You'd have to be clinically insane to want to spend money on an ATPL (commercial licence) right now, there are no jobs out there, unfortunately

You can halve the costs by doing it bit by bit though, either by getting your PPL then CPL or straight to CPL then gettig the required 'ratings' individually later on.
