with your tools in the van?? was at a job the other day and stopped over on the job. now this was quite a scumy area (cowgate in newcastle if anyone knows the "TOON") and i could hear all the local chavs outside smashing stuff and making a row well into the night and various alarms going off throughout the night. as i laid there i thought about all the tools in my van and added them up and its well over 3k, they'd have a field day on that lot. the van is a citroen dispatch, it has locks (obviously) but only standard and all the tools are in a wooded compartment in the back i made to keep them in order so there not visible at a quick glance. only thing that bothers me is if they break in i wont be insured for there loss as although i have commercial van insurance the contents insurance is only upto a max of 500 quid which wouldnt even buy me a new nail gun never mind the rest, is there anywhere you can get insurance for the contents? i'v had a look around but havent found anything. also what would you do to make the van more secure? did look at a solid bulkhead but quite often its good to be able to poke things over the passenger seat if it'l fit as saves tying on to the roof rack, a good alarm would be a bonus i guess but would need somting that covered everydoor (5) and with ultrasonics but this i'm sure wont come cheap, it does actually have a cat 1 sigmna alarm fitted but theres no fob for it so has been misplaced during its life

any ideas whats best

You can get the extra locks you see on thr back doors. They might be ugly but they do put people off. Also if it has rear windows, Black them out completely and fit some grilles to the back windows. This also makes some extra storage space to hang mastic guns off etc.

I have a 'No tools are left in this van overnight' sticker and a bfo sliding look to join both dors together.

But the tools are still left in there overnight, be fucked if I'm emptying it every night.

Do what a bloke i used to work with did, Put a hasp and staple lock on the inside of the sliding door, with a padlock on, and when you lock up for the night, just lock it from the inside, so if they do manage to do the outside door lock, there is still something keeping it locked.

Also If possable, Park it with the back doors up to a wall or post, and the side door right upto a fence if at all possable. Just do basic things to make it hard for them.

is yours a dispatch? do you have a link for the lock? its hard at the front as the sliding door shuts against the front door but there not flush apart from a little bit halfway down, plus woulndt want something that would need taking off to get in the front aswell as il prob get a bulkhead so woulnt need to worry about the front as much

The best way is to put the hasp part right at the top of the door, Then the smaller staple part on the shell of the van on the inside. My dad repairs vans everyday and he said people are doing it more nowadays. If ypu put a bulkhead in, just leave a cutout just enough so you can put your hand in and lock it from the passsenger seat. It may be a pain in the arse when you want something, but at least it's making it harder for them.
Havn't got ant pics of the van as I no longer work there.

Have you also considered a van vault. There like a bolt down toolbox with a big lock on them. Just something to keep the expensive stuff in.

The new ones are even easier. My dad has worked on loads that have been broken into in exactly the same way. The only way you know is when you go to start it and nothing works.

They do that when they cant find a key where he works. They have a box full and are garunteed to find a key that works.

Also it doesn't involve a key, Don't want to say too much incase people go around trying it.
