The redtop is a 16v engine.

You can get C20NE or C20SEH which are 2.0 8v, there is another one too that I can't remember. The C20XE is 16v.

He won't let you lift the bonnet because it's not an 8v redtop, as they don't exist, that's why

Anyway how could you copy mods from a 2.0 8v onto a 1.2 16v anyway?

I expect what he has is either an 8v with a painted rover cover, or he is rather misinformed.

I always understood that the was the 2 8v engines. C20NE and C20SEH, and the 16v C20XE. The C20XE is known as the red top engine. However the C25XE also had a "redtop" version as was in the calibra and cav. Im not sure also if the C36GET was also called a redtop.

However in most contexts redtop refers to the C20XE

Exactly, Oceansoul is on the money

I wasn't saying the C36GET was ever called redtop, I was replying to your reply of doing something different and putting one of those in

You are right though, they did do a 2.5 V6 with the middle bit of the cover painted red.
