thank you.

Stay in a higher gear then, instead of going into 2nd or 3rd, stay in 4th? So the revs arn't high up the range where the power is.

If it's nasty coming off a roundabout in whatever polo you've got you need driving lessons.

Bollocks. Have you seen the news each winter when hundreds of cars are stranded due to a slight flutter of snow. I'm buying winter tyres. Go to your local part worn tyre place as they get loads in from Germany. You'll pay about Ł15 each for them and they use a softer compound rubber/silicon mix that also means you reduce stopping distances in cold weather.

I would rather lose by a mile because i built my own car, than win by an inch because someone else built it for me.

P.S. Most of the replies here have clearly come from the townies who enjoy gritted roads on their commutes. Once you start getting into deeper countryside, Scottish highlands or not, the snow is something to contend with.

The hundreds of cars stranded due to a slight flutter all need driving lessons.

He's talking about roundabouts, you don't see many of them in the deepest countryside and he has a small engined polo, it's just a lack of skill/experience.

Chains

Unless you live somewhere where it gets about 2 feet of snow you won't need anything, where I live we get it really bad, our village is set in a valley so we get everything worse as it just blows through, I honestly wouldn't worry. Drive more cautiously if anything.
