Lad thought he put the customer on hold earlier then called him a "fucking dick". Customer was still on the line

Needless to say he was sacked, the manager spent over an hour calming the customer down, who was shouting the odds, and ended up offering them loads of free stuff.

Haha, my brother was put on hold once but he could still here the woman on the other end.

She called him a "fucking dick" so he confronted her and she denied it. Manager got involved and next thing he knows the woman is crying her eyes out apologising.

I think she kept her job though.

We had the same thing.

Used to get all the staff abusing us, how IT are shit etc... We'd let them carry on.....

Then take them off mute, and in a happy voice inform them how they do hope their view of IT changes after hearing them rant on, and how calls were recorded (they wasn't, but still great for putting the windies up them).

Apologise, oooffff they couldn't apologise enough...

However, I can't see how thats a sackable offence, and i'd be speaking to a solicitor on that one....

If my boss heard me say that, he'd know I was saying it for a valid reason and wouldn't sack me.

Bit unlucky tbh.

It's clearly gross misconduct.

It's a bit unlucky not pressing mute but it's not unlucky getting sacked for it.

Gross misconduct all over.

You can't tell a customer to fuck off. That's like me telling a Judge to go fuck himself if I didn't like the verdict.

I think it depends on the job.

If you work in a call centre, or a massive part of your job relies on talking to customers it is definately gross misconduct.

If you work in an office and the client is obviously being a pain in the arse it would be different. Still pretty serious either way.

If the client was in the office or on the phone and heard you calling them that you'd still get sacked.

He's being sacked for being caught, not for saying it.

In this case I'd agree but if a customer swore at me I'd swear back at them... Give as good as you get. Most of the time I'd bite my tongue though.
