depends on the price of the items you buy. i'm looking at an orange st4 se and that qualifies for 48 months interest free.

i know mate top aint it!

prices seem the same as most other places. they dont do some of the popular brands like specialized and scott etc. they do Orange, Kona, GT, Mongoose and Trek.

the bike i'm looking at is this
http://www.sunsetmtb.co.uk/shop/index.php?product_id=1411&category_id=81
and its the same price here

Farking hell, bit of a beast there!

I'm looking around 300quid for a bike for a bit of fun in the woods.

Is it better to buy a cheap one, and upgrade forks and stuff, or buy one thats more expensive?

I've looked at a few review of the Kona Luma'i and fire mountain, they are both ok, but people seem to change a few bits on the bikes, thats why i was wondering if it would be better to start with something cheaper?

it cost's a lot more to upgrade parts than it does to buy the bike with the bits you want in the first place. if i buy that orange then my Kona will be for sale. It is in absolutley mint condition. not a mark on it any where as i only ride trails and i keep it well serviced.

Drop me a u2u with the info mate.

Do you do 0% finance?

I'm looking at spending more now

Spend over 440 and get 18mths, stick a 50quid deposit down, and pay 22quid a month, thats less than my bloody phone contract, and same length of time!

So, if someone would be so kind as to help me pick something for around that price?

so whats the maximum you want to spend? You should be looking at at least £500 mate really for a decent hardtail. even then you will probably end up replacing the bottom bracket and some of the parts that take a bit of stick after a while.

this isn't a bad bike
http://www.sunsetmtb.co.uk/shop/index.php?product_id=1103&category_id=20

your best bet would be to get a 2009 as they all the 2010 bike are out now so you can pick up some bargains.

Yeh i was looking at the sale stuff tbh.

I'm not into jumps and stuff, just want to get out & about and get a few miles done around kielder, they have some new trails now.

I would do 500, thats 25 a month over 18 months, but i guess 600 is 22.50 a month over 2 years, is that too long?

I dont have alot of disposable income, but 20-25 a month is deffo doable.

The Blast looks like a corker, gets good reviews too. Anything worth changing on it though? whats the weakest parts on it?

Cheers for the info.

if you are going to stretch to 600 notes then get an 09 Cindercone
http://www.sunsetmtb.co.uk/shop/index.php?product_id=1105&category_id=20

mine is an 08 cindercone and it is spot on. for the type of riding you will be doing you won't need to change a thing.

I've noticed loads of people dont rate the pedals on the kona's, whats the deal with that? how can a pedal be better or worse than another?

Think i'm swaying towards the blast, its a good price, and the 0% is deffo swaying me, the cinder cone looks great, but the price isnt great there, and cant find anyone selling it with 0%

So, i'm thinking blast with different pedals. People are also saying bars too, what advantage would this have?

they come with shite pedals tbf. you can pick a decent set of flats up for £20 so i wouldn't let that sway you.

i wouldn't listen too much to what people say about the bars etc. thats the sort of thing you figure out yourself.

some bike manufacturers dont even sell their bike with pedals. others do but they are the cheapest ones you can imagine. Kona ones are the latter. i'd take a picture of the ones that came with mine but they are at work. they are perfectly functional but they are jsut cheap.

chuck a set of these on
http://www.wiggle.co.uk/p/cycle/7/Kona_Jackshit_Standard_Flat_Pedals/5360012413/

reading reviews on the internet is helpful but can sometimes give you the wrong idea about a particular bike. there will always be someone with something bad to say but you should just ignore most of it!

Ouch, they look like they'd snap your sodding shin in half when they come spinning around!

What about this bad boy?

Quite a bit of discount, but is there a reason for it? spec looks ok to my untrained eyes?

One thing i can't find a definative answer about - frame / wheel sizes.

I'm 6ft dead, inside leg of 33", any ideas what size i should be looking at?

17" - 19" frame. If you want a MTB it'll be 26" wheel.

If you want to try out a good few selection of bikes and get good advice, you can't beat an Evans Cycles.

Yeah, it would be perfect if you are just starting out.

My dad is 5"10' and has 17" bikes, so you'd want a 19" I'd imagine.
