Okay, basically my brother has somehow managed to put £10 of petrol on a diesel car. Was having a mega bad day and made a pretty stupid mistake. The car already had £20 of diesel in it, and drove okay for the half a mile back to his work. My question is this: Will it fuck the car up? I've had a few people say to just put more diesel in it to dilute it out, but I'm sceptical about this. Any advice that doesn't involve insults etc? Thanks!

Petrol in a Diesel is ok, it won't fuck the car up and will mix with the Diesel anyway, just keep it topped up and don't let it go below half a tank for a few tanks is all I'd suggest

Edit: Just read the second half of the paragraph and it's already been suggested to you, I agree with them.

It might just be a bit smoky.

Thing is, he works fo a car company and the car has to be picked up by a customer tomorrow and can't guarantee they'll keep it topped up. And saying to his boss probably isn't an option...Absolute fool of a boy.

I wouldn't worry to be honest. I don't think it will overly matter, blame it on the customer

I've known plenty of people to put Petrol in a Diesel and it's always been fine, other way around is a different matter

Drain it out and fill it with diesel would be the best option.

ive always thought the diesel pump among other things uses diesel as lubrication. i'd presume if it was topped up with diesel it will be ok

Yes it will more than likely be fine, but it sure as hell wont drive 100% like it should if it has petrol in the system.

My suggestion was only if the guy valued his job and didnt want to mention what he had done.

Do you reckon he'll get sacked if he tells them? I think he'll get off better telling them than if the engine goes on the way home and he's tried to cover it up with more diesel.

It depends on the car, old shonky diesel then yeah just dilute it, it will be fine but it's a modern diesel you may well fuck the engine.

What type of car and engine is it? I had a friend who put £15 petrol in his diesel golf PD130 and my mate who did his time with VW working on that car told me not to try and start it as it will fuck the head.

We drained it at the road side.

I done the same in my old 306 Dturbo(i blame the sales woman trying to sell me optimax as soon as i stepped out the car, didnt help that she kept yapping on even after i told her the car was a diesel)

I put £10 of petrol in then drove it half a mile b4 noticing it didnt feel right etc.Filled it up with diesel and it was fine, but under-powered and not very boosty(0.7 bar instead of 1.2 bar)

He is better off coming clean and telling them. Everyone makes mistakes. At least then they have a chance to be able to do something about it, will look bad on him if the customer takes the car tomorrow and then it breaks down on them.

Although I do agree about modern cars not being able to take it aswell as old ones, I think the fact that guy had worked for VW I think he has just been told that by VW as it is the safer thing to do, but it's only £10, which on a Skoda is nothing to what the tank can take, so well diluted

Run a live to the pump, undo 1 pipe in the bay and the contaminated fuel will be out within 10 mins.

Not a mission at all, it's very easy to do.

Fill it to the top with diesel, will be fine.

Managed 5-6 litres in the Ibiza once after PVS, filled to the brim with diesel and not one problem (well, related to that) 20k later.
