Right, due to buying a house etc, no more silly cars so contemplating a corsa/astra. Currently drive a 57 plate vectra SRi (with the stupid 19 inch wheels etc).
I'm after a diesel, good fuel economy, cheap tax, and generally cheap to run. Had 2 corsa Bs, 2 mk4 astras and the vectra, so never a corsa C/D or mk 5 astra - what would people recommend?
Looking to paay approx £100 p/m on finance

No idea what the finance would be, but the car to have atm seems to be an Astra SRi 1.9 CDTi 150ps; like Kano's on here etc

My 1.6 petrol 307 is silly on fuel as well. Will do 100 miles to a tenner motorway. Actually better than the Belingo or Connect i drive most of the time which are diesels. Plus, only thing that went wrong was the rad started to leak close to 50k. I didn't take it off so not sure of the damage. Could have split or been due to a stone or something.
I'll have another all day long

There is no way a 1.6 petrol will match up to the sort of economy i CAN get out of the JTD Mito

I've driven the D 1.3 CDTi 90ps, and it's not a half bad car in my opinion, I very almost bought it because it was very nice to drive. I can't really advise on economy because I only had it for a test drive but I imagine it's pretty good.
Driven a 1.7CDTi astra as well, and again reasonably quick for a diesel, handle pretty well, not a lot slower that the 1.8 petrol, with decent tuning potential I believe if you wanted it.

Parents used to own a 1.3 90ps Design (just sold it at the beginning of this week gone); used to comfortably do high 50's all day long. Really benefited having the 6 speed box. Pulled like a train for a 1.3 too!
They got the wrong year one though as tax was £120 or so iirc. Virtually all other years were £35 So avoid a 57 plate one if you get one.

It'll be kept standard. Always prefered bigger cars, hence the current vectra, so I was swaying towards the astra, but with the new shapes there's not a lot of difference in them is there?
For corsa/astra owners, how are you managing in the snow? My vectra has been stuck on the drive for 4 days now :/

Well my diesel Mito (which shares a chassis with the Grande Punto and the Corsa D) has covered over 100 miles in this weather with no problems what so ever
