I saw a few days ago a post about there Corsa which overheats when in traffic etc ? Does anybody know which post it was or could help ?? Mine overheats when stationary intraffic for a long time, but as soon as i get going it cools down bigtime ??

Fan switch not working, as you are moving cold air is getting in the engine and cooling it, but as you are stationary no air in!!! My mates car started doing the same thing over the weekend, cheap and easy to fit.

But fan will normally only kick in once it gets really hot, ie in the red. Think you are worrying about nothing mate.

Barkey : I can hear the fan kick in when it starts to get hot, so don't think it is the fan or could it be the fan not working properly ??

you are worrying over nothing, cars will heat alot quicker when at a standstill as there is no airflow thru the radiator, if & when it does to get too warm the fans come on inorder to increase airflow thru the radiator, this cuts off when it drops to a certain temp

when travelling there is constant airflow passing thru the radiator, that is why the temp stays lower

Temp will always rise in stationary traffic, Stop worrying, its fine!!!

What about if the engine starts idling akwardly, it goes up and down. Normally idles on 1000revs, then sometimes idles at 1500revs and then other times idles lower than 1000revs... It just goes up and down ?? Plus if i was in traffic for long enough would the car not overheat, it goes upto 100 easy ?

Have you got an induction kit?? If so, these will often make engine rev erratically, they suck in hot air off engine, but in stationary traffic, will be more hot air.
If you can hear the fan kick in, the engine shouldn't overheat.

it is not overheating unless it goes into the red

as for irratic idle this would happen to be starting from cold it idles arouind 1500rpm, then after a while it drops to 1000rpm

Have got a K&N filter so maybe that could cause the idle then, but it still idle akwardly after i have driven it for a while. So is not just after starting it...

anything between 90 - 100 is normal opperating tempature i dont worry bout it

jus put the hot air on in ur car suck all the hot air outta ur engine helps cool down....

Mine does the same mate. And has done since i got it.
Looked in Haynes manual and the Cooling fan don't kick in until about 98degrees anyway. I questioned it on my last service and they checked it out and sed that was normal operation.
If I get stuck in traffic I do as matt_jonesuk sed.
Turn Heaters onto Hot,4 and onto the Windscreen. And open the Windows cos ur gonna roast.
The temperature then soon plummets to lower levels.

my fan doesnt kick in until its really hot 98 + either ive also questioned it.... sometimes when i turn off the engine the fan decides to kick in weird

u do realise that the radiator fan & internal heater fan are two completly different fans and you have no control over the radiator fan.

also the radiator fan is needed to cool down the water circulating through the engine block, so sucking hot air of the exhaust manifold via the internal heater fan & having a green house effect in the cabin will do absolutely nothing!

by turning the inside heaters up your getting rid of the hot air from the engine bay, it does cool it down.

if you've checked the water level is ok, and the fan cuts in it should be fine.

could also check the thermostat, and cap on the water (it has a seal, that lets pressure off if it gets to much)

so how does sucking hot air from the engine bay cool the circulating water down??

with the radiator fan ur not cooling the actual engine, u are cooling the water used to cool the engine.

sucking hot-air might only work if your car uses a heater matrix which is used in conjunction with the radiator water, which is basically just like a little mini radiator, so it would help, but not v.much.

as long as the fan actually kicks in b4 the needle gets into the red it doesnt matter!

Surely by Sucking the hot air from the engine bay your dissipating the heat that is present into a larger area hence the water temperature drops.
Its basic physics that it takes many more joules of energy to heat an amount of water than it is for it to be cooled down.
