What do you guys wear?
I'm busy trying to find some leg gear that doesnt get jammed in the chain!
Anyone use clipped pedals? Not sure i could trust myself to clip out in time before i face plant a tree or just fall over.
Thiking about getting something like karrimor trekking trainers, as they should be fairly tough, unlike most of my tainers that last 2 months.

i use spd's for when i'm riding to work or doing general xc stuff. i wear 3 quarter lengths year round on my legs.

I wear some Altura 'baggies'. Just bought some Altura lycra knee warmers. Did the trick perfectly. Kept my thigh's and knees warm from the cold on Monday

3/4 lengths in the coldest of weather keeps the most important bit (knees) warm. I then wear baggy shorts over the top.
In terms of trainers/shoes. I recommend the Shimano DX's.
They come in both flat and SPD guise. Don't buy the SPD ones thinking you can use them on flats. Even if you don't put the cleats in, the sole is stiffer, so don't work as well.
If you properly stack with SPD's on, you will come unclipped, they aren't that bad. I rode with SPD's for about 10 years until switching to flats and never got 'stuck' in them.
If you want to start SPD's, I highly recommend Crank Brothers egg beater pedals. And cut away a bit of the shoe's sole to give you even more clearance and you should be able to get clipped in and out easy.

how do you find the sizing of those shorts? i normally get large, but it recons medium is 33-35inch waist? i'm 34 in jeans.

you mean the ones i posted? get a medium mate. i'm also a 34 waist and they are spot on. they have quite a lot of adjustment in the waist hence the wide size range.
