Damn, i'm sooooo fucking tempted to get a E46 M3

Seen an sweet example - black motor with red nappa leather interior and just over 100k miles for a notch under £10k. My insurance would be £1k my insurance company have informed me.

Anyway. Tempted

I looked at Jambos a bit ago, thats what poisoned my mind, damn him haha.

I do 6000 miles a year max, and to be fair, I wouldnt drive week days because my work is so close and i'd walk / bike which would knock another 1000 miles off that figure.

I dont expect to rack up many mileage related issues.

I looked at cabs but then realised I would be able to get my surfboard on the roof

Mines only 4yrs old & 40k but has cost (not my pocket in all occasions as I have warranty) around 3.5k on various bits & bobs in the 9 months ive owned it.

Obviously swerving main dealers & using specialist garages helps on cost.

Have the costs been useage related though, or failures?

to be fair they are good cars, but 100k would put me off. for £2k more you can knock 40k off the milage easy, maybe more.

Routine servicing, couple bits failed, tyres & some paintwork to keep it looking pretty. Need my alloys done next which will be around £400. Ive only done 5-6k in the car.

Thats me been keeping on top of everything though & using main dealers @ £100/hr labour rates, things can be done cheaper!!

Surely 100k is nothing on a 3.2 litre motor though?

Thats what im trying to suggest. £2k more will get a nice one like jambo's which pretty much wants for nothing.

If you look at the £10k one make sure its not needing work.

no its nothing...but wear and tear comes with the miles on any engine

plus....these cars will have had a hard 100k, people dont buy them to plod about in

if its cheap enough, and you can have a grand sat about "just in case" anything needs doing then do it. But yes, 100k is nothing so long as its looked after, fully serviced by BMW or an indi and the price is right

Yeah I know what your saying. Like I say, i'm stretching my budget at £10k so maybe i'm biting off more than I can chew

I'm still really keen on a 330d too. Maybe my eyes are bigger than my belly

£2k more to buy but will sell for £1500 more when you come to sell in 2 years for example, so really only cost you £500 out of pocket

you need to decide what you want

speed
raw power
ecconomy
looks
service costs
etc

330d is one hell of an engine if you want good MPG, cheap tires, services etc

m3 is complete power with expensive everything

I put all the cars I looked at into a spreadsheet and calculated the true running costs over 3 years, and that made my decision

at first I wanted an m3 (for looks mainly), then an 330d convertible, and ended up going for a new 320i convertible (folding hard top) lol

Additionally to this just make sure it doesnt need a service, esspecially an inspection 2, brakes, exhaust or tyres....as each of these all round can cost around a grand buying the proper bits.

Also check the parking sensors work & rear springs are not snapped...these are what cost my warranty company over £700 and are common parts to fail.

Theres something else to look for particularly on the manual ones, Ive got SMG & forget what it is but Jambo will know.

Some folk say 19" alloys, TV/DVD/Nav & HK stereo are must have bits of kit but tbh they wouldnt bother me as long as the rest is bob on.

depends on the price/cvalue and ease to sell on in the future. Nobody wants M3s with tape players 18s and cloth seats. It will take you ages to shift it tbh

more spec is worth more and will hold its value in comparison and be more desireble. Hence why people bang on about it

I wouldnt bother if your stretching to afford a £10k one, if you really want one save up some more pocket money.

just spend a bit more and get a lower mileage one, unless you can get it for less and you are happy with it.

are u joking Chloe? It has the best dash plastics ever its soft to touch and matte so doesnt reflect light...

The only thing i dont like is the armrest/grab handles as they creak but other than that it was better than the 57plate Merc i had. U must have been in a shitheap tbh
